Los magistrados rechazan por mayoría los tres recursos que pedían la suspensión del torneo debido a la pandemia
La Corte Suprema de Brasil alcanzó este jueves la mayoría de seis votos necesaria para permitir que la Copa América se juegue en dicho país. Con esta decisión desestima tres recursos que pedían suspender el torneo debido a la pandemia de Covid-19.
La resolución es ya irreversible ya que la corte tiene once miembros y los únicos seis que se han pronunciado hasta ahora han rechazado los recursos interpuestos por partidos políticos de izquierda y un sindicato metalúrgico alegando que el torneo no podría celebrarse en un país en el que la pandemia continúa descontrolada.
De hecho, según los últimos datos oficiales, Brasil suma casi 480.000 muertes por coronavirus, con un promedio de 1.727 decesos diarios en las últimas dos semanas, y según los especialistas está a las puertas de otra ola pandémica, la cual coincidirá con la Copa América, que durará un mes y arrancará el próximo domingo.
Los gobernadores, responsables
Los magistrados que ya se han pronunciado siguieron la opinión de una de las instructoras del caso, Carmen Lucia Antunes, que subrayó la jurisprudencia ya sentada por el Supremo respecto a restricciones para contener la pandemia, que según la Constitución nacional recaen en los gobernadores de cada uno de los 27 estados del país.
“A ellos cabe definir, hacer cumplir y controlar los protocolos para que no haya una ‘copavirus’, que sea fuente de infecciones y transmisión de nuevas cepas”, indicó la jueza.
Apuntó además que las autoridades locales, “si fuera el caso”, podrán ser responsabilizadas en el futuro “por sus decisiones administrativas” y las consecuencias que eventualmente generen.
Burbujas y sin público
La única exigencia es que se presente un protocolo de seguridad, que la Confederación Suramericana de Fútbol (Conmebol) ha dicho que será similar al de otros torneos que se celebran en Brasil y toda la región, según el cual se mantiene a las delegaciones en unas rígidas ‘burbujas’ y los partidos se disputarán sin público en las gradas.
De ese modo, la Copa América comenzará el próximo domingo con las diez selecciones suramericanas distribuidas en dos grupo. El A, con Argentina, Bolivia, Chile, Paraguay y Uruguay; y el B, en el que han sido emparejados Brasil, Colombia, Ecuador, Perú y Venezuela.
Las subsedes serán Río de Janeiro, Brasilia, Cuiabá y Goiania, cuyas autoridades locales, según la decisión de la Corte Suprema, podrán responder ante los tribunales en caso de que se compruebe que el torneo agravó de alguna manera la crisis sanitaria del país.
