Uruguay sumó su tercer partido consecutivo en las clasificatorias sudamericanas sin lograr marcar goles y cedió dos puntos ante la débil Venezuela en Caracas
Pasó Venezuela y Uruguay se quedó en cero gol. El jueves pasado había sido ante Paraguay y también 0 a 0. Y en la jornada anterior, en noviembre ante Brasil, tampoco tuvo amistad con el gol la celeste, y perdió 2 a 0. Tres partidos consecutivos sin lograr marcar, con Suárez de punta, pero sin generación de fútbol. Ante Venezuela, extrañó demasiado a su socio de toda la vida en la celeste, Edinson Cavani, pero igualmente no puede entenderse como excusa porque Uruguay estaba obligado a ser protagonista ante una Venezuela débil y además con ausencias notorias. Y casi no lo fue, no tuvo claridad y generó mínimo peligro sobre el marco del golero local Graterol.
Uruguay salió al terreno con una formación que anunciaba mayor agresividad y potencial ofensiva, pero no respondió en la primera parte. Volvió a la tradicional línea de cuatro, esta vez con Martín Cáceres por el lateral zurdo, y con Josema Gimenez y Godín por el centro. En la mitad de la cancha, Lucas Torreira fue titular, plantado delante de la línea de fondo, con Federico Valverde por izquierda, y Matías Vecino por derecha. De punta, para acompañar a Luis Suárez, Tabárez optó por dos puntas, Facundo Torres por derecha y Jonthan Rodríguez en la otra banda.
A Uruguay le duró diez minutos el protagonismo en el Estadio Olímpico de Caracas, pero sin generar chances de gol. Ante una Venezuela con ausencias importantes, cedió luego la pelota, y fue el local el que estuvo más cerca del gol. Convirtió uno, a través de Josef Martinez, después de un entrevero entre Josema Giménez y Godín, pero fue anulado a instancias del VAR por mano del delantero vinotinto. Y tuvo otra más, en invasión de Jefferson Savarino, cuyo remate fue cruzado a tiempo por Josema, cuándo Muslera la tenía muy complicada para evitar el gol.
Uruguay? Un remate de Suárez desde el borde del área, y un tiro libre en el que no llegó a conectar el cabezazo Josema de frente al arco. Nada más.
En el complemento, ingresaron Matías Viña y Naithan Nandez y por momentos la celeste ganó protagonismo pero sin claridad . El ingreso posterior de Nicolás de la Cruz, el futbolista de River argentino, fue revulsivo, pues se constituyó en el único futbolista en jugar mirando directamente hacia el arco de Graterol. Con juego más ofensivo y práctico, empujó a Uruguay, y propició la chance más clara, tocando para Viña, quién ingresando por izquierda definió fuerte pero sin dirección.
Venezuela se resguardó atrás, cuidó un empate que no le sirve en la tabla pero le permite salir de una sucesión de derrotas. Uruguay se fue de Caracas con la impotencia de no poder convertir, patentizada en el rostro de Luis Suárez, embroncado con la situación.
