Su derrota ante el Gladbach (2-4) junto a los triunfos del Colonia y el Arminia Bielfeld en sus respectivos encuentros condena a los verdiblancos
La Bundesliga de esta temporada 2020/21 pasará a la historia por un nuevo paseo del Bayern Múnich, por la eclosión definitiva de Erling Haaland y también por el hecho de que los dos equipos que han perdido la categoría hayan sido dos ilustres que hace muy poco disputaban competiciones continentales: el Schalke 04 y el Werder Bremen.
Lo del Schalke 04 se conocía desde hace varias semanas, pero lo del Werder Bremen se confirmó este mismo sábado, cuando luchaba por eludir el descenso con el Colonia y el Arminia Bielfeld siendo los otros implicados en dicha pelea.
Antes de que arrancase la 34ª y última jornada del campeonato alemán el Arminia Bielfeld, en zona de salvación, tenía 32 puntos, el Bremen, en un puesto que le mandaba a jugar el ‘playoff’ para salvarse, 31, y el Colonia, en zona de descenso directo, 30. Pero lo que sucedió fue que tanto el Arminia Bielfeld (0-2 ante el Stuttgart) como el Colonia (1-0 frente al Schalke 04) vencieron, mientras que el Werder Bremen cayó por 2-4 ante un Borussia Moenchengladbach que luchaba por acceder a la UEFA Conference League. No le valió el triunfo al cuadro ‘borusser’ porque el Union Berlin ganó 2-1 ante el Leipzig, pero el Bremen sí se vio perjudicado al perder la categoría por su derrota.
El Werder Bremen, campeón de la Bundesliga en la temporada 2003/04, la 1992/93 y la 1987/88, no descendía a la segunda división alemana desde que lo hizo por primera vez en su historia en el ya lejano curso 1979/80. Entonces, solo pasó un añito en el infierno y eso es lo que esperan como mal menos sus aficionados.
En cuanto al Colonia, que quedó en puestos de ‘playoff’, conocerá su rival en el mismo este domingo. Será el que acabe tercero en la 2. Bundesliga. Bochum, Kiel o Fürth.
