Javier Tebas acusó directamente al máximo mandatario de la FIFA, mientras que el New York Times dijo que parte de su personal estaba involucrada
Gianni Infantino no negó que él o su equipo incentivaran a los clubs precursores de la Superliga a lanzar la iniciativa antes de que se presentara el proyecto, que fracasó después del escándalo que se organizó a nivel europeo.
Este jueves, y después de que Javier Tebas acusara al presidente de la FIFA de formar parte, el New York Times aseguró que gente de su equipo había estado involucrada en conversaciones sobre el posible respaldo a la Superliga.
Preguntado este viernes acerca del tema en el congreso de la FIFA si podía rechazar categóricamente dicha información, Infantino esquivó la pregunta. “Deberíamos mirar los hechos, no los rumores o chismes. Especialmente porque provienen de ciertas partes”, se defendió, recalcando que “he trabajado en diferentes puestos de relevancia en el fútbol durante décadas. Conozco muchos clubs, hablo con ellos desde hace muchos años, desde mis días en UEFA”.
Infantino no negó que “cuando hablamos con clubs europeos, la Superliga siempre fue un tema de discusión, siempre, todo el mundo del fútbol lo sabe. Así que no juguemos con eso. Todos saben que desde hace años y años algunos clubs están estudiando o preparándose para proyectos como este o similares”, insistió el presidente de la FIFA, que sacó pecho al aclarar que “en los 16 años que estuve en la UEFA siempre lo conseguimos y puedo decir que había proyectos mucho más avanzados que el que hemos visto recientemente”.
No contento con esto, Infantino aclaró que “es mi responsabilidad como mandatario de la FIFA reunirme y debatir con las partes interesadas. Escuchar a algunos clubs y hablar con ellos no implica que la FIFA haya estado detrás o conspirado para el proyecto de la Superliga”. Es más, recordó que “en enero firmé una declaración que era muy clara. La firmé yo mismo, fui la primera persona en la declaración. Fui muy claro y esto obviamente no disuadió a algunos clubs de seguir adelante con el proyecto”.
Al respecto de la situación, esta ruptura “se está volviendo inevitable y nunca es buena para nadie. Ninguna guerra es buena, nunca. Volví a ser claro y muy firme en el congreso de la UEFA. Lo dije muy claro, o estás dentro o estas fuera”, zanjó Infantino.
