Wayne Rooney ha interrumpido sus vacaciones en Barbados para viajar hasta Washington D.C. y negociar con la directiva del DC United. El delantero, según informa The Sun, ha recibido permiso del Everton para resolver su futuro lo antes posible.
La leyenda del Manchester United se reunirá en las próximas horas con Jason Levien y Dave Kasper, altos cargos del DC United, para mostrarle la ciudad, el Audi Field (nuevo estadio del club) y negociar el salario astronómico que percibiría. Se habla de 300.000 dólares semanales.
Aún así, la operación no será sencilla, ya que Rooney aún tiene firmada una temporada más con el Everton. El club inglés le ha dado vía libre para negociar, pero no le dejará marchar gratis. Eso sí, pesar de tener uno de los presupuestos más bajos de la MLS, el DC United está dispuesto a hacer un esfuerzo, al necesitar un atractivo para impulsar un ambicioso proyecto que nace con la construcción de su nuevo feudo.
Rooney no se ha encontrado cómodo en su club de origen esta temporada. A pesar de anotar diez goles y erigirse como el máximo goleador del equipo, no ha encontrado las vibraciones que esperaba como un referente para la afición.
De todos modos, Sam Allardyce afirmó el pasado 11 de mayo no tener ningún problema con él: "Si Rooney se va a quedar o se va a ir, no lo sé. Me parece bien si un jugador quiere dejar el club, pero seamos claros: no ha pedido salir. Somos dos adultos y hemos hablado".
Además de la posible llegada de Rooney, el DC United ha buscado en el mercado la llegada de otros jugadores consagrados en el mundo del fútbol. Es el caso de Fernando Torres y Carlos Tévez, aunque el primero ya está prácticamente descartado, al estar cerca de firmar por el Sagan Tosu japonés.
