La extraña muerte del que
fuera entrenador de porteros de la selección de Colombia, el irlandés Des
McAleenan, ha provocado la conmoción de todo el cuerpo técnico que comandó el
portugués Carlos Queiroz entre 2019 y 2020.
El propio Queiroz lamentó la
muerte de su amigo con un emotivo mensaje en las redes sociales: "Que
todos los que lo abandonaron cuando dio positivo por coronavirus ahora sean
castigados por su conciencia. Perdón a ti y a tu familia porque no pude hacer
todo lo que prometí. Lo mejor del fútbol terminó para mí, y hoy me voy contigo.
RIP Des".
Océano, también muy afectado
Océano Cruz, exjugador de la
Real Sociedad y ayudante de Queiroz, también se sumó a las muestras de dolor al
asegurar que "teníamos que haber hecho más". "Inteligente, leal,
una buena persona y un gran profesional", con esos calificativos describió
a Des en declaraciones a EFE.
McAleenan, de 53 años, fue
hallado sin vida en las últimas horas en Dublín y entre las hipótesis, que se
haya quitado la vida, aunque, de momento, todo está bajo investigación.
Contrajo el Covid en noviembre
Se da la circunstancia de que
Des McAleenan, "una persona que psicológicamente no era muy fuerte",
apunta Cruz, vivió los últimos tres meses con la demasiados infortunios.
Días antes de los encuentros
de Colombia contra Uruguay y Ecuador -el 13 y el 17 de noviembre de 2020-, Des
contrajo la covid y se tuvo que quedar aislado en un hotel de Bogotá, por lo
que no pudo seguir la concentración de los cafeteros en Barranquilla.
“Sabíamos que el técnico
irlandés debería ser seguido de manera estrecha, por sus cicatrices del
pasado", explica Océano Cruz.
La destitución de Queiroz
Además de estar confinado,
Colombia perdió contra Uruguay el 13 de noviembre y cuatro días más tarde acabó
goleado en Quito por Ecuador (6-1).
Fue el fin de la era del
cuerpo técnico que dirigían el mozambiqueño Carlos Queiroz y el caboverdiano
Océano Cruz, ambos nacionalizados portugueses.
Cada uno se fue para su casa y
Des se marchó a Irlanda con su familia, tras ser despedidos en los primeros
días de diciembre pasado, recuerda Océano Cruz.
La denuncia de Océano
"Hablábamos en grupo o en
privado con él la mayoría de los días", explica Océano, que en sus tres
campañas con la Real Sociedad (1991-1994) de John Benjamin Toshack anotó 20
tantos, a pesar de ser centrocampista. "Él era una buena persona y todo el
cuerpo técnico manteníamos una amistad muy grande", destaca de McAleenan.
"Yo no quiero aprovechar
su muerte para apuntar a nadie", insiste Océano, mientras lamenta que
"todos tenían que haber estado más cerca de él, en Colombia,
principalmente cuando se quedó solo en Bogotá, con covid, y la selección fue a
jugar a Barranquilla y a Quito".
Aquel empate entre Chile y
Colombia el pasado 14 de octubre fue el último encuentro que compartieron
Queiroz y Océano con Des sobre los terrenos de juego.
