Everton, en un Old Trafford vacío ha tenido lugar el homenaje a los 23
fallecidos en la tragedia de hace 63 años
El Manchester United
homenajeó, como cada temporada, a las víctimas del accidente aéreo de Múnich en
el que murieron 23 personas, entre ellas 8 jugadores del club inglés, y del que
se cumplen este sábado 63 años.
Un 6 de febrero de 1958 el
avión en el que se desplazaba la plantilla del United después de jugar en
Belgrado ante el Estrella Roja en la Copa de Europa se estrelló en el
aeropuerto de la ciudad alemana, donde paró para repostar.
El desastre se llevó por
delante a 23 ocupantes entre futbolistas, periodistas, cuerpo técnico y
personal aéreo. Siete jugadores del Manchester (Geoff Bent, Roger Byrne, Eddie
Colman, Mark Jones, David Pegg, Tommy Taylor y Liam Whelan) perdieron la vida
en el accidente y un octavo, Duncan Edwards, quince días después a consecuencia
de las heridas. Todos menores de 29 años.

Otros dos jugadores tuvieron
que abandonar el fútbol por las secuelas. Sobrevivieron, entre otros, el mítico
entrenador Matt Busby y el también legendario jugador Bobby Charlton.

del partido contra el Everton.

víctimas fue desplegada en la grada principal del recinto del estadio de
Manchester. "Nunca los olvidaremos", recordó el club inglés.
