a su equipo la segunda Libertadores de su historia
El desenlace, cruel para un
Santos que soñaba con ganar la cuarta y que propuso algo más
Maracaná, mito de mitos del
fútbol mundial, coronó este sábado al nuevo rey de América: Palmeiras, que en
el último suspiro, en el 99’, marcó por mediación de Breno y derrotó a Santos
por 1-0 en la tercera final de Copa Libertadores cien por ciento brasileña de
la historia, tras las de 2004 y 2005. Es la segunda Libertadores de Palmeiras,
tras la conseguida en 1999.
Se terminaba el descuento
cuando, a centro de Roni y aprovechando la ventaja que le dio Para, Breno se
elevó al cielo de Río para conectar un gran remate de cabeza y acabar con el
sueño de Santos de convertirse en solitario en el equipo brasileño con más
Libertadores en su palmarés (tiene 3, como Gremio y Sao Paulo). Pero la épica
estuvo con el Palmeiras del portugués Abel Ferreira.
En la primera parte hubo
muchos más nervios e imprecisiones que fútbol. Mucha más tensión que acierto
entre el ‘Verdao’ y el ‘Peixe’. No fue el nivel de juego que se espera de una final,
con un Santos ligeramente superior a su rival pero sin crear ocasiones claras.
La mayoría de estrellas no brillaban. Fue un jugador del Palmeiras, Roni, el
más peligroso en dicho primer periodo, el que creo más peligro.
El encuentro mejoró en la
segunda mitad, pero el gol no llegaba. Lucas Verissimo estuvo a punto de
avanzar a Santos (que en semifinales dejó fuera a Boca) en el 58’. Faltando un
minuto lo probó Kaio Jorge (autor de 5 goles en esta Copa Libertadores, soñaba
alcanzar los 6 de Neymar en la Copa Libertadores 2011, pero no lo consiguió)
con una chilena. El árbitro añadió 8 minutos a los 90’ y Cuca, entrenador de
Santos, fue expulsado por tratar de esconder un balón.
Palmeiras, protagonista de un
partido de ida de ensueño, 0-3, en semifinales contra River (al que dejó fuera
de la final), estuvo en Maracaná muy lejos del nivel de aquel día. Pero Breno
fue el único este sábado que encontró el camino del gol. El nuevo campeón de
América es Palmeiras y ahora aspira a ganar el Mundial de Clubs, en el que si
se cumplen los pronósticos puede jugar la final contra el Bayern. Gloria para
el ‘Verdao’.
