El Valencia no solo logró una importante victoria en Valladolid -la cuarta de la temporada- sino que además dejó la portería a cero por tercera vez en lo que va de curso. Fue otra de las buenas noticias que dejó la fría noche en Zorrilla. Especialmente para un equipo como el Valencia que ha tenido rachas esta primera vuelta en las que encajaba con demasiada facilidad y que sigue siendo uno de los equipos más goleados de Primera división, con 25 tantos en contra.
El Valencia es uno de los equipos que menos veces ha dejado la portería a cero esta temporada (3), junto a Celta y Huesca que solo superan a Valladolid (2) y Levante (1). Hay un dato significativo en el asunto de la efectividad de la zaga. Aunque parecía una defensa de circunstancias -en realidad lo era con la ausencia de Paulista y la decisión de alinear a Thierry Correia- la zaga que alineó Javi Gracia en Zorrilla ya había logrado otra portería a cero esta temporada. Fue en Anoeta, donde también fueron titulares Correia, Diakhaby, Guillamón y Gayá con victoria 0-1 ante la Real Sociedad.
Resulta más curioso aún que el tercer partido en el que el Valencia dejó la portería a cero, frente al Eiba (0-0)r, fuera titular ninguno de los cuatro. En Ipurua jugaron, además de Jaume en la portería, Wass, Paulista, Mangala y Lato.
Con unos jugadores u otros, los datos hablan por sí solos y no señalan directamente ni a la portería ni a la retaguardia en particular, sino a la propia estructura de la plantilla. Al Valencia le falta desde este verano, al menos, un central y un mediocentro defensivo, dos puestos clave en la organización de la zaga del equipo.
Uno de los aspectos que ha querido reforzar Javi Gracia desde las primeras jornadas de Liga fue tratar de frenar la cantidad de goles encajados. En ese intento de mejorar los datos defensivos, pero también obligado por las bajas, el técnico ha buscado variantes en el equipo, hasta incluso cambiar de sistema y poner tres centrales. En el mercado de invierno, el club sigue buscando las dos piezas básicas (central y pivote defensivo) que desde verano reclamaba el entrenador.
