El fútbol no es una actividad esencial. No hay que jugarlo cueste lo que cueste, a todas horas y todos los días. No se puede intentar llegar a Miranda de Ebro en pleno temporal, como el Rayo. O recorrer 470 kilómetros y otros tantos de vuelta, de Salamanca a El Ferrol, como el Unionistas. Ni intentar aterrizar en un aeropuerto congelado, como el Athletic. O despegar hacia Pamplona, como el Madrid, en pleno trance de si se cierra o no Barajas. O sacar a los jugadores del Getafe de casa, cuando no sale un coche por la rampa de un garaje. No, no es esencial que el Madrid juegue por real decreto. Ni el Athletic. Ni los demás.
Sí es esencial la guardia en un hospital. Y por eso ha habido sanitarios que han cruzado a pie el Polo Sur que es Madrid, para llegar a tiempo al cambio de turno. Situaciones de primera necesidad exigen a veces respuestas más allá de lo sensato. Y quienes llevan esa vocación en la sangre se convierten en héroes cotidianos. Pero ir a jugar un partido de fútbol no tiene por qué superar lo razonable ni ser una heroicidad.
Una vez que empieza...
No exige un sacrificio descomunal estar cuatro horas sentado dentro de un avión parado. Es incómodo. Sólo eso. Pero tampoco es normal tener así a un equipo. Como tampoco es vinculante relacionar ese contratiempo o un campo medio nevado con jugar un mal partido de fútbol. Y es exactamente lo que hizo Zidane tras empatar ante Osasuna. No tenía cara de entrenador contrariado. Tenía cara de haber estado esperando en la terminal.
Y se equivoca porque una vez que pita el árbitro, no hay excusas ni justificaciones que expliquen el partido tan pobre del Madrid en El Sadar. Empezando por la nula incidencia de Zidane en el desarrollo del encuentro, con cambios poco productivos, y continuando con el tono lánguido del equipo. Un tono que responde a un patrón conocido esta temporada: un sistema defensivo con dos líneas bien organizadas inutiliza al Madrid hasta llevarlo a la mansedumbre. Es un defecto que se repite en el tiempo y para el que ni Zidane ni los jugadores han encontrado una solución futbolística.
Un ruido cómodo
Fuera del hecho deportivo que supone un partido de fútbol, el club parece sentirse confortable en un ruido que acompañe las tesis de Florentino Pérez y la SuperLiga Europea. Todo lo que le ayude a construir una trama lejos de LaLiga no incomoda al club: el VAR manipulador que no le favorece, los comentaristas resabiados, los horarios, el temporal, la logística de los viajes, eso de ir a El Sadar a deshora y que el campo no sea una alfombra... Florentino está labrando, a base de propaganda, la permanente sensación de que el Madrid agarra la puerta en cualquier momento y se va de España. Situaciones como la de Pamplona cuestan dos puntos en la tabla, sí, pero también suman adeptos a la causa que el presidente inició oficialmente en la asamblea del club.
En la SuperLiga de Florentino no hay nieve porque los estadios tienen techo retráctil. Ni hay osasunas, ni Tebas que lo persigan y lo importunen. Sólo hay campeones y algún que otro jeque con el que no le resultaría difícil entenderse. Si pudiera irse y dejar esta liga en la que nieva una vez cada 50 años, lo haría mañana mismo.
