El cuadro de Guardiola volvió
a imponerse en Old Trafford, con un tanto de Stones y otro de Fernandinho para
alcanzar la final de la Copa de la Liga
Ni siquiera este United, el
mejor en meses, pudo hacerle frente al City. El equipo de Guardiola no tiene
rival cuando se refiere a la Copa de la Liga, finalista por cuarto año
consecutivo. Se ilusiona con un torneo menor y eso le honra, muy serio para
eliminar a su vecino en Old Trafford. Un tanto de Stones, soberbio desde que
recuperó la titularidad, y otro de Fernandinho sentenciaron a un United gris,
en buena medida por la noche desafortunada de un apagado Bruno Fernandes (0-2).
No fue un derbi acalorado pero
transcurrió de un susto a otro, un tanto atropellado, sin demasiado orden. Se
definió el primer tiempo a través de ocasiones que se quedaron a medias, y hubo
tres tantos anulados por fuera de juego. El City se libró de castigo tras un remate
de Rashford que rebotó en Stones, aunque el ariete arrancó en fuera de juego.
Después fue el United el que se secó el sudor de la frente, aliviado: a
Gündogan le anularon el 0-1 y también a Foden tras una carrera que quedó
invalidada.
Siempre se espera mucho de la
cita en Manchester, tanto que a veces decepciona. Sin embargo esta vez el derbi
no defraudó ni tuvo un dominador de entrada, repartido el poder en Old
Trafford. Guardiola volvió a presentarse sin ariete, con Sterling en punta y
con Agüero en el banco, como si el City empezara a acostumbrarse a vivir sin el
argentino. Como en Stamford Bridge, no fue un equipo encorsetado, mucho más
cómodo cuando fluye e intercambia posiciones.
De Bruyne estuvo cerca de
avanzar al City, aunque la madera repelió un remate seco del belga. Otro
sobresalto para Henderson, titular en un United que echó de menos a Bruno
Fernandes. Jugó el portugués pero le costó marcar el ritmo en el primer tiempo,
condicionado por la mejora de su rival con el paso de los minutos. El cuadro de
Pep acabó con mucho control a falta de más pegada, tónica habitual de una
temporada en la que empieza a enderezar el rumbo.
Casi por justicia poética,
Stones descorchó el derbi. El central, un futbolista que tuvo pie y medio fuera
del Etihad en verano, resucitó de golpe hasta el punto de haberle quitado el
puesto a Laporte. Y acompañó su buen rendimiento con un tanto con el muslo tras
una falta lateral ejecutada por Foden. Ha correspondido a la paciencia y a la
apuesta de Guardiola, que le ha dado otra oportunidad a un chico con poca
suerte desde que llegó a Manchester, falto de continuidad y de confianza.
Con el 0-1 se vio a otro City,
con mucha más soltura, en parte por el paso al frente de jugadores como
Sterling o Mahrez, que pudo sentenciar. Se invirtió la tendencia entonces, con
un United inclinado hacia Steffen, aunque le faltaron ocasiones. Bruno
Fernandes remató desde lejos, desquiciado frente a un City que remató el choque
con un gran golpeo de Fernandinho desde la frontal, suficiente para firmar otra
visita a Wembley. Mourinho, la última piedra en el camino.
