Athletic Las finales, la renovación del equipo, volver a Europa....
Marcelino se estrena este lunes como entrenador del Athletic. Y, todavía sin tiempo para conocer cuál es el camino más rápido entre el hotel en el que reside y Lezama, tendrá que afrontar un partido de Liga el miércoles contra el Barcelona. Lo que se encuentre en el primer contacto con la plantilla no le sorprenderá. Sabe bien a qué se enfrenta. El asturiano ha seguido varios partidos del Athletic y cuenta con análisis de vídeo. El que piense que la destitución de Garitano y la contratación de Marcelino fue un calentón está descaminado. El trabajo venía de atrás. El técnico llega con varios retos por delante
UN PLAN ATREVIDO CON RENDIMIENTO
Garitano deja al Athletic en mitad de la tabla, a la misma distancia del sexto que del decimoctavo, pero con la sensación de vivir a tirones, sin terminar de encontrar un ritmo sostenido. El deriotarra lo consiguió nada más llegar al equipo, cuando tenía que sacarlo del pozo, pero le ha costado mantener una línea cuando había que mirar a la Liga desde otras posiciones. Esa será una de las tareas de Marcelino. El equipo necesita un plan atrevido. Un estímulo para crecer y no caer en el desánimo que provoca sentir que le cuesta un mundo ganar dos partidos seguidos y que cualquier encuentro en el que domina -el del Elche es ejemplo- puede irse al traste por un despiste.
LAS FINALES QUE VIENEN
Marcelino es el último entrenador que levantó la Copa como campeón. No había ganado títulos hasta que llegó al Valencia. En Bilbao estará en puertas de pelear por el primero en una semana con la Supercopa que le negaron por su destitución en Valencia, que es el club al que habría dirigido en Arabia Saudí el pasado curso de no haber sido cesado en septiembre. Pero la final que de verdad importa en Bilbao es la aplazada de Copa en el derbi con la Real Sociedad. El asturiano vivirá de cerca una cita emblemática porque el hecho de ser una final de Copa se multiplica al tratarse de un derbi. Un partido con un resultado para la historia. Habrá generaciones que hablen durante años de esa final.
LA OPORTUNIDAD DE LOS JÓVENES
No hay equipo en todos los que ha dirigido en el que no haya dado oportunidad a más de un joven futbolista de la cantera. Marcelino es de los que se atreve a la hora de apostar por alternativas. Se la juega por los que luego muchos dicen que se veía que iban a llegar -aunque hasta entonces nadie los había puesto- pero también por los que no tienen tanta luz detrás. Pone en el camino a los que considera que necesita y luego será el rendimiento el que haga el resto. En Lezama no tendrá problema en mirar al filial, pero su tarea está en el ramillete de jugadores del primer equipo que tienen años de carrera por delante y quieren hacerse un sitio.
EL APROVECHAMIENTO DE LA PLANTILLA
En un fútbol con 23 convocados y 5 cambios las alineaciones y sustituciones no pueden parecer que vienen hechas de casa. Los condicionantes que ha dejado el fútbol en la pandemia deben revertir en un mayor aprovechamiento de la plantilla, con más jugadores partícipes y no tener tres bloques marcados: intocables, los que rascan algo y los que no juegan salvo que coincida año bisiesto y erupción múltiple de volcanes. Irá a cuenta de Marcelino ampliar el radio de acción y conseguir un grupo sin grandes distancias.
LA PUERTA DE UN TORNEO EUROPEO
Ziganda fue el último entrenador en sentarse en un banquillo en competición europea. Pasó ronda de fase de grupos en Europa League y una atractiva eliminatoria frente al Spartak de Moscú. Le eliminó el Olympique de Marsella en marzo de 2018. Desde entonces los únicos partidos del Athletic frente a rivales europeos han sido amistosos. Y no es suficiente. Por prestigio deportivo y por cuestión económica.
