United utilizó la palabra “negrito” en Instagram para agradecer la felicitación
de un amigo
Edinson Cavani, delantero del
Manchester United, ha sido suspendido con tres partidos y multado con 100.000
libras (111.000 euros), por la Federación Inglesa de Fútbol (FA) tras admitir
la acusación que el organismo presentó contra él por usar un término racial.
El delantero uruguayo, de 33
años, escribió la palabra “negrito” en un mensaje por Instagram tras vencer al
Southampton el 29 de noviembre, aunque posteriormente lo retiró y se disculpó.
Cavani respondía con un
“gracias, negrito” a la felicitación de un amigo tras marcar dos goles en los
últimos minutos que permitieron al United remontar al Southampton (2-3) en
partido de la Premier League.

Cavani se perderá el partido
de la Premier que el United jugará este viernes, primer día de 2021, contra el
Aston Villa, la semifinal de la Copa de la Liga contra el Manchester City el 6
de enero y el partido de la FA Cup contra el Watford el día 9.
“Un comentario publicado en la
página de Instagram del delantero del Manchester United fue insultante,
abusivo, inapropiado y desprestigió el juego en contra de la Regla E3.1 de la
FA”, argumentó la FA en su comunicado.
“La publicación también
constituye una ‘infracción agravada’, que se define en la Regla FA E3.2, ya que
incluía una referencia, ya sea expresa o implícita, al color y / o la raza y /
o el origen étnico”.
La FA también obliga a Cavani
a seguir un proceso de educación como parte de su castigo.
Los motivos para no recurrir
Mientras, el United precisó
que Cavani decidió no recurrir la acusación por respeto a la FA y la “lucha
contra el racismo en el fútbol”.
“A pesar de su sincera creencia
de que simplemente estaba enviando un afectuoso agradecimiento en respuesta a
un mensaje de felicitación de un amigo cercano, decidió no impugnar el cargo”,
dijo United en un comunicado.
“El club confía en que la
Comisión Reguladora independiente dejará claro en sus razones escritas que
Edinson Cavani no es racista, ni hubo ninguna intención racista en relación con
su cargo”, concluye el United.
