No siempre se puede arreglar
un desaguisado en diez minutos ni salir con vida de la ruleta rusa, pecado de
un United que se despide de la Champions por la puerta de atrás. En la fase de
grupos, eliminado por un RB Leipzig que se gustó al principio y que casi se
queda sin aliento al final, amenazado por un cuadro de Solskjaer que reaccionó
tarde, como tantas y tantas veces, aunque esta noche la moneda no le salió de
cara. El precio a pagar, la Europa League. El United sigue en decadencia (3-2).
Solskjaer gestiona un equipo
desmemoriado, propenso al drama. Nunca aprende, como el alumno que tiene que ir
a septiembre. De poco o de nada le sirve fallar porque no saca ninguna lectura,
ni siquiera la noche más importante. El RB Leipzig le dio un baño sin
paliativos, quizá un castigo que se ha ganado a pulso el United por su
inoperancia. Por salir dormido, como si no pasara nada tras caer la semana
pasada frente al PSG. Como si no hubiera consecuencias irreversibles.
El choque discurrió a través
de Sabitzer y se decidió por el talento de Angeliño. El primero, director de
orquesta, se encargó de nutrir al segundo, pesadilla para un United que no pudo
descifrarlo. Ya no se define como lateral porque eso le encorseta, nada que ver
con el baile al que sometió a todo un experto como Wan-Bissaka. Le dio igual.
Siempre le ganó la espalda y le apuñaló tras una gran asistencia de Sabitzer:
1-0. Una vez más, el United se pegó otro tiro en el pie.
Aprobó hace tiempo la
asignatura de remontar, pero el cuadro de Naglesmann no aflojó. Inspirado como
nadie, Angeliño le repartió un caramelo a Haidara, que cruzó su remate para un
2-0 que escoció a un rival que no tuvo respuesta. Sus intentos, frustrados,
fueron propios de un principiante. Y solo le quedó recurrir a la fe, a otro
ejercicio de supervivencia. Se libró del 3-0, anulado por fuera de juego, breve
respiro a un primer tiempo de terror. Para olvidar o, mejor dicho, para no
olvidar jamás.
Bruno Fernandes se intentó
animar a ratos y engrescó a Rashford pero sin demasiada convicción. La
hemorragia era grande y el United pretendió cerrarla con tiritas. Una idea de
bombero. Pogba y Van de Beek ingresaron a la desesperada, como si tuvieran un
as bajo la manga. El luso envió un remate a la madera, el colmo de la mala
suerte. Sobre todo porque al contragolpe Kluivert anotó el 3-0 en un despiste calamitoso
de Maguire, resuelto con un toque sutil.
El United, sin embargo,
siempre sale a flote. Muere de pie. Mateu Lahoz señaló un penalti dudoso a
Greenwood: Bruno Fernandes no falló. Y como ocurre en cada encuentro, el equipo
de Solskjaer despertó al final. En un saque de esquina Pogba recortó la
distancia de cabeza. Real como la vida misma, inexplicable como el United.
Aunque acabó muriendo en la orilla, un fracaso en Champions que le manda a la
agria e ingrata Europa League.
