Cuando el Madrid tumbó al Inter en San Siro, Zidane lanzó una sentencia que tiene más carga de profundidad de la que parece: "Cuando estos jugadores se tienen que poner, se ponen". O sea que eligen a voluntad los partidos en los que darlo todo y los que se toman con cachaza. Cádiz, no se ponen; Barça, se ponen; Shakhtar, no se ponen; Inter, se ponen; Alavés, no se ponen; 11 partidos tras el confinamiento, se ponen y ganan la Liga; 27 partidos anteriores, se ponen a medias...
Lo cual convierte al Madrid en un equipo absolutamente indescifrable porque es fácil adivinar qué partidos encienden la mecha de la plantilla pero es absolutamente imposible discernir en qué encuentros van a holgazanear, cuánto tiempo va a gastar Isco en subirse las medias en una tarde de pereza o cuándo van a salir los jugadores con el nivel de concentración de una hormiga, como sucedió el sábado noche. Ni siquiera Zidane fue capaz de ofrecer una explicación. No la tenía. Parecía Pepe Isbert en 'Bienvenido Míster Marshall': "Como alcalde vuestro que soy, os debo una explicación y esa explicación que os debo, os la voy a pagar..." Es muy difícil manejarse así en un territorio como LaLiga, donde hay que picar piedra cada jornada, hay rivales a los que les huele el sobaco y entrenadores listos y despiertos como ardillas para detectar un domingo de vagancia en el Real Madrid.
Alternar actuaciones brillantes con bodrios infumables no alcanza para ganar un título que se disputa de septiembre a mayo. "Cuando estos jugadores se tienen que poner, se ponen". El problema es que hay que ponerse todos los días.
EL HOMENAJE DE MESSI
El homenaje de Messi a Maradona debería marcar un punto y aparte en estos días de intensa emoción recordando la figura futbolística de Diego. Messi fue brillante en la puesta en escena. Esperó a que sus compañeros dejaran de abrazarlo para quedarse solo, sabiendo que el mundo estaba esperando un gesto. No lo pudo hacer mejor: la camiseta de Newell's, el equipo de su corazón, con el que Diego jugó apenas siete partidos, y la mirada al cielo. Fueron segundos de recogimiento, un gesto sobrio pero de gran impacto que llevó aparejada una cierta humildad, una cierta sumisión ante el gigante que se ha ido.
Justo la tarde en la que el Barça recuperó sensaciones. El gesto de Messi corona un periodo de duelo. Dentro de unos meses, todo será nostalgia y, como ha sucedido con otros grandes, el mundo se dividirá entre los que tuvimos la suerte de ver jugar a Maradona y los que no. Es la única manera de entender a los que vieron jugar a Di Stéfano y lo llevan como seña de identidad y orgullo.
