Diego Armando Maradona
será por siempre uno de los grandes mitos de la historia del fútbol, que llora
su pérdida. Una leyenda que se fue este miércoles, a los 60 años, tras una vida
marcada también por sus excesos a raíz de las adicciones que sufrió desde
mediados los años ochenta del siglo pasado.
El propio Maradona
aseguró que probó por primera vez la cocaína durante su etapa en Barcelona,
concretamente en 1983. Después, ya como jugador del Nápoles, se convirtió en
adicto a dicha droga. Los éxitos que dio al equipo del San Paolo fueron
acompañados por sus excesos en su vida privada, incluidos sus vínculos con
miembros de la Camorra napolitana. Las celebraciones tras los encuentros
duraban varios días, entre drogas y prostitutas.
Un positivo por cocaína
en 1991 le costó una suspensión de 15 meses que supuso la antesala de su adiós
al Nápoles en 1992. En Argentina pasó un día detenido por posesión de drogas.
En la cuesta abajo,
Maradona dio positivo por efedrina jugando con la selección argentina el
Mundial 1994, lo que supuso el final de su etapa en la albiceleste, con la que
había sido campeón del mundo en 1986 en la cúspide de su carrera.
La salud le dio el primer
aviso serio a Maradona en 2000, cuando, estando de vacaciones en Punta del
Este, ingresó en una clínica con una crisis hipertensiva y un cuadro de
arritmia ventricular causado por las drogas. De hecho, se temió por su vida.
Fue entonces cuando viajó
a Cuba para someterse a un tratamiento de desintoxicación bajo el cobijo de
Fidel Castro. En 2004, nuevo ingreso con una crisis hipertensiva y una
infección pulmonar. Debido a su obesidad, Maradona se sometió en 2005 en
Colombia a un bypass gástrico. Perdió más de 50 kilos.
Maradona dijo que, tras
la crisis sufrida en 2004, dejó las drogas. Sin embargo, no pudo superar su
adicción del alcohol. Con las adicciones llegaron los escándalos, entre ellos
los sexuales o los protagonizados con sus parejas.
