El brasileño atiende a AS para contar cómo está llevando su primera experiencia en Europa, sus objetivos esta temporada y sus sueños con la selección.
Cuando Ziyech se marchó del Ajax, todo Ámsterdam lloró. Se fue el mejor jugador de la liga. Pero jamás hubiesen pensado que encontrarían un sustituto tan rápido. Antony (Osasco, Sao Paulo, 20 años), que lleva el dorsal 39 pero que hace cosas de sobresaliente, está siendo la revelación del campeonato. Él lo sabe y está encantado. "Mis primeros objetivos eran adaptarme a Europa, ser titular y debutar en la Champions. Ya son más ambiciosos y quiero ganar la Eredivisie y llegar lo más lejos posible en la Champions", explica el jugador a AS.
Su fichaje por el Ajax le cambió por completo. Le presentaron un proyecto muy atractivo, le dedicaron la atención que merecía durante las negociaciones y la tradición del club de cuidar el talento fue lo que terminó por decantar la balanza. Aunque él estaba convencido, el Sao Paulo no se lo puso nada fácil y la operación se cerró en unas cifras que, con variables, pueden alcanzar los 21.750.000€, muchísimo dinero en el mercado holandés. Pero a él no le importan: "Estoy seguro que tomé la decisión correcta. Además, estaba Neres, un amigo que me dio el fútbol. Nos conocemos desde el Sao Paulo, tenemos una historia de vida muy parecida y yo lo quiero mucho. Me ha ayudado desde que estoy aquí". Precisamente por su culpa, Antony ha tenido que salir de la zona de confort de la banda derecha, desde la que puede perfilarse para buscar el disparo o el pase entre líneas que maneja a la perfección. Pero él asegura sentirse cómodo en cualquiera de las dos bandas e incluso jugando por el centro.
Antony no sólo es que se adapte rápido, es que además cae de pie. En su primer partido oficial con el Ajax marcó el 0-1 definitivo y en la Champions dejó grandes -y virales- detalles ante el Atalanta para, en la siguiente jornada, marcar en casa del Midtjylland en el minuto uno de partido. La grandeza no se aprende, pero fijarse en los mejores, ayuda. "Messi, Cristiano Ronaldo o Lucas Moura. Con él tuve la oportunidad de vivir y compartir experiencias que me están ayudando en mi vida aquí, en Europa. Ahora vivo con Tadic, a quien ya admiraba antes. Pero ahora mucho más, es un crack".
En este 2020 es otro futbolista. Y no por casualidad, sino que lo buscó él. Por algo en 10 partidos con el Ajax ha marcado más goles que en los 37 en Brasil. Quería ser más goleador y en ello estuvo trabajando toda la cuarentena con un miembro del cuerpo técnico del Sao Paulo para trabajar el disparo con la pierna derecha y el remate de cabeza. "Cuando llegué a Europa pasé por un cambio de mentalidad, donde el gol es lo más importante. En Brasil defendía más a mi par y no podía subir tanto", admite. El fútbol ofensivo de Holanda es una bendición para él, y aunque hoy en día su cabeza está centrada en el Ajax, desde pequeño ha seguido la Liga. "Es increíble, un torneo que reúne a grandes jugadores con calidad técnica y obediencia táctica. Y España es un país que me encanta", aunque no se moja respecto a si tira más hacia el Madrid o hacia el Barça: "Es difícil dar una opinión, ya sabes (risas). Son dos de los clubes más grandes del mundo y tienen grandes talentos brasileños a los que apoyo".
Como todo niño, y más un brasileño, su sueño es jugar con la selección. De momento, espera su turno con la selección olímpica, en la que es un fijo. Fue titular habitual en el Preolímpico de enero y febrero, justo cuando se cerraba su traspaso al Ajax. "Defender a mi país siempre será un gran honor y sé que la Federación me tiene en cuenta. Todo tiene su tiempo y lucharé por competir en los Juegos Olímpicos de Tokyo y también por debutar con la absoluta. Ese es mi objetivo", confiesa. No tardará si sigue jugando a este nivel.
