Joao Maleck fue sentenciado este viernes por un tribunal a tres años, ocho
meses y 15 días de prisión por cometer un doble homicidio culposo agravado
provocado en un accidente automovilístico.
Además de la pena, el ex
futbolista del Sevilla tendrá que pagar una indemnización que asciende a
143.000 dólares (122.500 euros) a los familiares del matrimonio fallecido en
junio de 2019.
Medios mexicanos indican
que Maleck podría salir libre de prisión en caso de pagar la indemnización, que
trascendió estaría garantizada por una póliza del seguro del vehículo que chocó
el futbolista el año pasado.
El pasado viernes, el
atacante de 21 años fue declarado culpable del doble homicidio culposo
agravado, después de una larga audiencia en la que jueces estatales del penal
Puente Grande dictaminaron su responsabilidad en la muerte de la matrimonio
formado por Fernanda Peña y Alejandro Castro.
La familia de Peña reveló
a Efe que entre su estrategia legal utilizaron 22 testimonios y mostraron
diversos peritajes, fotografías y vídeos que comprobaron el delito cometido por
Maleck.
Joao Maleck es hijo de
madre mexicana y del futbolista camerunés Jean-Claude Maleck, quien jugó en el
fútbol mexicano en los equipos Tecos UAG y el San Luis a finales del siglo
pasado.
Además de jugar para el
Sevilla, Maleck ha participado en las categorías inferiores del Santos Laguna y
el Porto de Portugal.
Maleck declaró en pasados
días que aún cuenta con intenciones de retomar su carrera futbolística, en la
que llegó a ser convocado a procesos juveniles de la selección mexicana. Se
apunta que en las próximas semanas Maleck cobrará el seguro y pagará los
143.000 dólares.
