De ello ha hablado el ex jugador del Liverpool John Barnes. La leyenda 'red', ahora comentarista de televisión, cree que el Manchester United debería haber apostado por Thomas en lugar de por el holandés.
"El Manchester United ya ha concedido muchos goles esta temporada y podría haberlo evitado con un jugador como Thomas Partey. Él los habría hecho mucho más fuertes", asegura, para luego añadir que "el United se encuentra ahora en un momento en el que tiene a jugadores excelentes con el balón y ofensivos como Paul Pogba y Bruno Fernandes, pero Van de Beek no puede levantar a la gente de los asientos de la misma manera. El United necesitaba a un centrocampista como Thomas por delante de la defensa que los proteja".
