buen hacer de su guardameta, consagrado por delante de Kepa, y se llevó un
empate de Old Trafford en el debut de Cavani
El cansancio por competir
en Champions pasó factura al United y al Chelsea, sin inspiración en su regreso
a Inglaterra. Nadie encontró puerta y eso obliga a hablar de Mendy, consagrado
gracias a sus meritorias intervenciones en Manchester. Ya no hay debate con
Kepa. En el tiempo añadido le negó el triunfo a Rashford, quizá por justicia
divina, porque nadie mereció más que un punto. Otro empate entre dos grandes
que no acaban de despegar en esta Premier tan rara (0-0).
Mucho ruido y pocas
nueces en Old Trafford, una cancha sin alma, tan solo alterada por la intensa
lluvia. No correspondió el encuentro a la propaganda de la Premier,
acostumbrada al show, más al tratarse de dos equipos como el United y el
Chelsea. No hubo noticias en Manchester ni se reparó en jugadores como Werner o
Rashford, mimetizados con el escenario. Un primer tiempo soso, gris y con
alguna que otra buena intención que no llegó a buen puerto.
Solskjaer premió el buen
juego de Mata ante el Newcastle y el asturiano repitió en el once, seguro de
vida para un United al que el Chelsea maniató un rato. Pero hubo tanta
intermitencia que nada duró más de la cuenta. Sin continuidad, el choque esperó
a un error. A punto estuvo Mendy de dar un susto a más de uno, aunque el
francés justificó la apuesta de Lampard bajo palos. El ahora titular evitó el
tanto de Rashford y el de Mata, resumen de un United al que le faltó acierto.
No tuvo que aparecer De
Gea, más relajado después de su gran noche ante el PSG. Aunque no le satisfizo
el 0-0 a Solskjaer, inconformista frente al Chelsea. Hizo debutar a Cavani, un
jugador con olfato, tan familiarizado con el gol que su primer toque se fue
apenas por un palmo. Entró también Pogba, a la espera de una genialidad, pero
el equipo descuidó a Bruno Fernandes. Nadie le dio la espalda al choque, pero
hubo una tregua en el segundo tiempo, por miedo o por cansancio.
Asegurar un punto o
arriesgar a por el triunfo. En esas se debatieron el United y el Chelsea, quizá
más decidido el cuadro de Solskjaer. No se le puede cuestionar al noruego que
no fuera a ganar a su rival, que probó sin fortuna con Mount, Abraham y Ziyech.
No amenazaron a De Gea. Sin duda la mejor noticia para un United que tuvo más
consistencia y menos eficacia que en Champions. Se le resistió el triunfo en
una tarde que acabó con una gran mano de Mendy a Rashford. El empate, lo más
justo.
