Van Dijk, de 29 años, tuvo que ser sustituido por Joe Gomez, a pesar de que en la misma jugada no se pitó ni falta de Pickford por culpa de un fuera de juego anterior.
La baja para Jürgen Klopp es capital. El central más caro de la historia del Liverpool, que costó por encima de 70 millones, ha sido indispensable en el resurgir del equipo de Anfield desde su llegada en el invierno de 2018 y con él como titular se ha conquistado la Champions League y la Premier League. De hecho, había sido titular en todos los partidos de liga desde su llegada desde el Southampton hasta este fin de semana en Goodison Park.

Klopp tiene ahora un dilema como el que tuvo el Manchester City la temporada pasada, cuando Laporte se perdió varios meses de curso: ¿Podrá mantener el mismo ritmo de victorias sin el mejor central de la plantilla? Tras la conquista de la Premier League en 2020, el reto de defenderla en 2021 es todavía mayor.
