Dos años después del Mundial de Rusia 2018,
Inglaterra y Bélgica vuelven a encontrarse. Los ‘diablos rojos’, que ganaron
entonces a los ‘pross’ en la primera fase (0-1) y en el partido por el tercer y
cuarto puesto (2-0), visitan este domingo Wembley en encuentro del grupo 2 de
la Liga A de la Nations League. La Bélgica de Robert Martínez llega sin los
lesionados Eden Hazard y Thibaut Courtois, pero con Kevin de Bruyne, el jugador
que tiene rendido al Reino Unido.
No en vano De Bruyne fue elegido mejor jugador de la
Premier y de la UEFA de 2019-20. Este domingo en Wembley los focos estarán
puestos en el astro del Manchester City de Pep Guardiola, un De Bruyne al que
los ingleses consideran la gran amenaza, junto a Romelu Lukaku, para Jordan
Pikford, guardameta ‘pross’.

De Bruyne fue autor en la pasada Premier de 20
asistencias, con lo que igualó el récord que tenía Thierry Henry desde 2002-03.
El ‘citizen’ marcó además 13 goles, con lo que fue el primer medio desde Frank
Lampard en tener un rol decisivo en más de 30 tantos en el campeonato.
Bélgica, primera en el ránking mundial de la FIFA,
solo ha ganado a Inglaterra cuatro veces en 23 enfrentamientos, pero los de
Robert Martínez vencieron en los dos últimos, en el Mundial 2018. Inglaterra no
ha olvidado aquellas derrotas y quiere empezar a tomarse la revancha.
Gareth Southgate, seleccionador de Inglaterra,
contará con Jadon Sancho y Tammy Abraham, que no participaron el jueves en el
triunfo por 3-0 en el amistoso contra Gales por haber vulnerado las reglas de
prevención del coronavirus. Sancho y Ben Chilwell acudieron a la fiesta de
cumpleaños de Abraham (que cumplió el 2 de octubre 23 años) el pasado fin de
semana en Londres.
Southgate, que alineó a suplentes contra Gales, no
es partidario de que a Jack Grealish ya le comparen, tras su gran actuación,
con Paul Gascoigne: “No quiero apagar el entusiasmo por Jack, pero solo hubo
uno del nivel de Gascoigne”
