Después de un 0-0 en el tiempo reglamentario, Willock se encarga de ejecutar el lanzamiento con el que los ‘gunners’ sellaron el pase.
Hay quien, con poco acierto, se refiere a ella como la suerte de los penaltis. Pero no es tal. Gana el que mejor se desenvuelve desde los 11 metros, y en esta ocasión, tal y como sucedió en la Community Shield hace un mes, el Arsenal fue superior al Liverpool para lograr este jueves la clasificación a los cuartos de final de la Copa de la Liga inglesa. Solo cuando finalizó el tiempo reglamentario y sin pasar por la prórroga se procedió a deshacer el empate desde los 11 metros pudimos ver goles. Como era de esperar, tanto Klopp como Arteta presentaron ‘onces’ a caballo entre los teóricos titulares y los habituales suplentes. Más de estos últimos, en realidad, aunque de inicio se vio a futbolistas como Van Dijk y Salah en el Liverpool, y Bernd Leno, Gabriel, Xhaka, Ceballos y Pépé por el Arsenal.
La primera parte no fue un bodrio, pero casi. Hubo que esperar hasta el último minuto para presenciar una ocasión de gol, y para no desentonar con lo que se había vivido hasta entonces, Minamino envió el balón al larguero cuando tenía la portería vacía para marcar.
En la segunda mitad, la cosa se animó, y fueron Adrián (esta vez titular) y Bernd Leno los que se erigieron como protagonistas. Más el alemán, que intervino en varias ocasiones con acciones de gran mérito para negarle al Liverpool la clasificación. Se acostumbró tanto a hacerlo, que en la tanda de penaltis también resultó determinante. Detuvo dos. Uno a Origi y otro a Wilson cuando ya se disputaba la muerte súbita. Willock se encargo de chutar a posteriori y aunque Adrián la tocó no pudo evitar el sevillano que el balón traspasase la línea clasificando al Arsenal para la siguiente ronda y obligando al Liverpool a despedirse de esta competición.
