
El Millonario
recibirá a Sao Paulo en Avellaneda, en el que será apenas su sexto duelo como
anfitrión pero fuera de su histórica casa.
Desde su
inauguración, el 26 de mayo de 1938, River Plate es sinónimo del Estadio
Monumental, luego de dejar su cancha de Libertador y Tagle para construir un
verdadero Coliseo a pocos metros del Río de La Plata. En pocas ocasiones y por
razones de fuerza mayor debió dejarlo y hacer las veces de local en otra
cancha, como ocurrirá este miércoles cuando reciba a Sao Paulo en el Libertadores
de América y, posteriormente, en lo que se extienda su participación en la Copa
Libertadores, debido a la megaobra de remodelación.
Durante su
extensa y prolífica historia, el Millonario debió dejar su casa (tanto en el
barrio de la Boca como en Recoleta y el Antonio Vespucio Liberti) en 135
ocasiones, pero apenas cinco ocurrieron en partidos válidos por el máximo
certamen continental.
La primera vez
fue en 1967, cuando recibió a Bolívar y lo venció por 2-0 en el Cilindro de
Avellaneda; en 1977, el gobierno de facto había decidido remodelar el
Monumental a través del Ente Autárquico Mundial para la Copa del Mundo del año
siguiente, por lo cual fue cerrado y River se mudó al Palacio Tomás A. Ducó,
donde derrotó 2-1 a Peñarol, empató 1-1 con Defensor Sporting y 0-0 con Boca.
Pero ninguna
salida será más recordada que la del 2018: el 24 de noviembre, debía definir el
título con Boca, luego de igualar 2-2 en La Bombonera. Pero un ataque al micro
que trasladaba el plantel Xeneize fue atacado a piedrazos, CONMEBOL suspendió
el encuentro y se reprogramó para el inolvidable 9 de diciembre, cuando
igualaron 1-1 en el tiempo regular y luego, en el suplementario, celebró
gracias a los goles de Juanfer Quintero y el Pity Martínez.
Así, en los cinco
partidos jugados en esta condición se mantiene invicto, con dos victorias y
tres empates, aunque uno de ellos luego resuelto de la forma más gloriosa.
