Al-Khelaïfi y el ex número dos de la FIFA, Jérome Valcke, frente a un turbio
caso de venta de derechos de televisión.
La fiscalía suiza
solicitó este martes tres años de prisión para el ex número dos de la FIFA,
Jérome Valcke, y 28 meses de prisión para el presidente de beIN Media y del
Paris Saint-Germain, Nasser Al-Khelaïfi, por un caso de venta de derechos de
televisión del Mundial de Fútbol y la Copa Confederaciones, según informó la
agencia suiza Keystone-ATS.
Esta acusación,
que debe ir seguida este miércoles y el jueves de alegatos de la defensa, es la
más severa pronunciada en suelo europeo en los numerosos casos que atentan
contra el fútbol mundial en los últimos años, tras las condenas dictadas en
Estados Unidos contra antiguos dirigentes sudamericanos.
Valcke, mano
derecha hasta 2015 del que fuera presidente de la FIFA, Sepp Blatter, está
acusado de querer transferir los derechos de Oriente Medio y el Norte de África
para la proyección de los Mundiales de 2026 y 2030 a beIN Media, a cambio de
presuntos sobornos de Al-Khelaïfi.
Según la fiscalía,
el caso se refiere a una reunión celebrada el 24 de octubre de 2013 en la sede
francesa de beIN, en la que el presidente del PSG supuestamente prometió
comprar una lujosa villa en Cerdeña por cinco millones de euros (5,86 millones
de dólares), concediendo su uso exclusivo a Valcke.
Al-Khelaïfi, que
ha negado cualquier “pacto corruptor”, al igual que ha hecho Valcke, debía
entonces entregar la propiedad al francés dos años más tarde bajo ciertas
condiciones. A cambio, según la fiscalía, Valcke se comprometió a “hacer lo que
estuviera en su mano” para que beIN se convirtiera en la emisora regional de
las dos Copas del Mundo, algo que ocurrió el 29 de abril de 2014, en un acuerdo
que la FIFA nunca impugnó.
La fiscalía, sin
embargo, no ha podido acusar a Valcke y Al-Khelaïfi de “corrupción”, debido a
un acuerdo amistoso concluído a finales de enero entre el dirigente qatarí y la
FIFA, que retiró su denuncia contra él.
El fiscal
federal, Joël Pahud, reprochó a Nasser Al-Khelaïfi su “desprecio por la justicia”,
considerando que apenas había colaborado en los debates al negar haber comprado
la residencia sarda, a pesar de las pruebas reunidas por los investigadores.
Por su parte,
Valcke, residente en Barcelona, ”ha sufrido profesionalmente en los últimos
años. No ha encontrado trabajo después de la FIFA”, dijo Joël Pahud. Al
comienzo de su audiencia, el ex número dos de la FIFA dijo que no había podido
abrir una cuenta bancaria en Europa desde 2017, había tenido que vender su yate
y joyas y le habían robado su Porsche Cayenne.
