La Conmebol ratificó el día 8 como fecha de inicio y la FIFA garantizó la presencia de jugadores de clubs europeos.
La Conmebol ratificó este martes para el 8 y 13 de octubre el arranque de las eliminatorias sudamericanas para el Mundial de Qatar 2022, con la presencia de jugadores de clubs europeos en las diez selecciones en liza.
La resolución fue anunciada en un comunicado de la Conmebol tras una reunión por videoconferencia de los presidentes de las diez asociaciones miembro con el presidente de la FIFA, Gianni Infantino, en la que se ultimaron detalles de esa fase de clasificación.
"El titular de la FIFA, Gianni Infantino, declaró que la institución hará cumplir el reglamento que obliga a los clubs (europeos) a liberar los jugadores en favor de sus respectivas selecciones", señaló la Conmebol..
"Las fechas de los primeros partidos -8 y 13 de octubre- fueron ratificadas en el encuentro, mientras que el presidente Infantino manifestó la voluntad de la FIFA de que todas las selecciones nacionales lleguen en igualdad de condiciones", aseveró la Conmebol..
Infantino da su palabra
El máximo organismo del fútbol sudamericano recalcó que Infantino "aseguró el cumplimiento de los reglamentos vigentes con relación a la cesión de jugadores por parte de los clubs en favor de las selecciones nacionales" ante una "solicitud concreta" de las federaciones.
La liberación de las estrellas sudamericanas de las ligas europeas es motivo de conflictivo ante la reticencia de sus clubs a viajes largos y riesgos de lesiones, con el añadido del impacto actual del coronavirus en Sudamérica.
La Conmebol y la FIFA acordaron además celebrar otra reunión de coordinación "del más alto nivel" para este jueves.
Aplazamientos por el Covid-19
Respecto a su calendario original, los primeros partidos clasificatorios de Sudamérica ya fueron aplazados de marzo a septiembre, pero ante la propagación de la COVID-19 volvieron a ser trasladados a la primera semana de octubre.
En ese sentido, la pasada semana la CONCACAF y la FIFA acordaron que la primera ronda de clasificación de esa confederación para el Mundial de Qatar 2022 se inicie en marzo de 2021 y no en octubre-noviembre de este año, como estaba previsto, junto a la elaboración de un nuevo calendario dada la actual situación sanitaria en la zona.
