Phil Foden, dos de los jóvenes más prometedores de la selección inglesa, se
encuentran en el centro de la polémica tras incumplir el estricto protocolo del
combinado nacional en su viaje a Islandia. Según informa el Daily Mail,
ambos futbolistas han sido 'cazados' con mujeres en el hotel donde se
concentraba Inglaterra. Una decisión totalmente desacertada y que va en
contra de las normas impuestas a los jugadores para preservar la salud del
grupo y evitar contagios por coronavirus.
Ahora, con
la FA (Asociación Inglesa de Fútbol) pendiente de una posible
sanción, los jugadores de Manchester City y Manchester United vuelven
a ser noticia tras haber cumplido su debut con la selección absoluta el pasado
sábado. Phil Foden había sido titular ante Islandia, mientras
que Greenwood debutaba entrando como suplente en el minuto 78,
sustituyendo a Harry Kane.
La situación ya
ha provocado críticas por parte de los aficionados, e incluso hay quien pide
una sanción de por vida para los dos.

Por el momento,
ninguno se ha entrenado este lunes con el equipo y mañana la selección jugará
ante Dinamarca en Copenhague, pero ni Greenwood ni Foden estarán allí. Los
dos han sido apartados de la expedición y siguen pendientes de una
posible sanción.

El seleccionador
británico ya se ha pronunciado sobre el tema: "Desafortunadamente, esta
mañana llamó mi atención que dos chicos han roto el protocolo contra el
coronavirus, por lo que decidimos rápidamente que no podían tener contacto
con el equipo. No podrán viajar ni entrenar y según el procedimiento, ahora tienen
que volver a Inglaterra de forma individual".
Southgate también
ha confirmado que ningún otro jugador de la plantilla ha estado en contacto con
ellos, además de analizar personalmente el acto de los dos futbolistas: "Han
sido ingenuos... reconozco su edad, pero el mundo entero está lidiando contra
esta pandemia".
