Más de ocho meses
después, vuelve el fútbol de selecciones. El coronavirus impidió la ventana de
marzo y la Eurocopa de este verano, y ahora toca reanudar las competiciones.
Así aparece la Liga de Naciones, para la Bélgica de Roberto Martínez (nº1 del
Ranking FIFA) el 5 y el 8 de septiembre, contra Dinamarca e Islandia, fuera y
en casa, respectivamente. El seleccionador español considera especialmente
interesante el primer duelo, puesto que los daneses les esperan también en la
fase de grupos de la Eurocopa.
Roberto Martínez
ha dado a conocer la lista para estas dos primeras jornadas de la Liga de
Naciones, compuesta por 29 jugadores. En ella destaca la presencia de los dos
madridistas, Courtois y Hazard, capitán de los Belgian Red Devils. Les
acompañará desde España el rojiblanco Yannick Carrasco. Son algunos de los
destacadísimos nombres de una plantilla que cuenta con los Alderweireld,
Witsel, Tielemans, De Bruyne, Thorgan Hazard, Mertens o Lukaku.
Son llamativas
las ausencias de otros históricos de Bélgica como Vermaelen, Batshuayi y
Benteke, los tres incluidos en la citación anterior, en noviembre. El central,
de hecho, fue titular frente a Rusia, en una noche en la que el atacante del
Chelsea tuvo 13 minutos. Benteke, por su parte, marcó un doblete ante Chipre.
Roberto Martínez lo explicó así: "Batshuayi y Benteke no estarán porque
hemos tenido contacto directo con sus clubes y resultó que era mejor que no
viajaran ni dejaran su campo de entrenamiento. No es una decisión técnica.
Benteke entra en nuestros planes y Batshuayi tiene una temporada difícil, pero
tiene mucho crédito por lo que hizo antes aquí. (...). Con Vermaelen todavía
estamos comprobando la situación con el gobierno japonés. Si se hace el
papeleo, estará con nosotros".
La otra cara de
la moneda la protagonizan los primerizos en una convocatoria: Jérémy Doku,
extremo de 18 años del Anderlecht, y su compañero de equipo Landry Dimata,
delantero de 22. Asimismo, regresa más de un año después Koen Casteels (28),
meta del Wolfsburgo.
