Hace cuatro años, un Gonzalo Higuaín que acababa de batir el récord de goles realizados en un campeonato de Serie A (36, igualado en esta temporada por Ciro Immobile), dejaba Nápoles para enfundarse la camiseta de su gran rival, la Juventus. La noticia causó las protestas enfurecidas de los tifosi partenopei, que le trataron como el heredero de Maradona, y la alegría de los turineses, que veían como su ventaja sobre la competencia seguía aumentando.
El traspaso costó 90 millones de euros y fue uno de los más importantes en la historia reciente del Calcio. La luna de miel del Pipita con la Vecchia Signora duró dos temporadas y sus frutos fueron 105 presencias, 55 goles marcados, dos scudetti y dos copas italianas más en su palmarés.
En 2018, la Juve decidió prescindir de sus servicios y el argentino vivió dos cesiones complicadas entre Milán y Chelsea, aunque Higuaín en Londres se volvió a encontrar con Sarri y ganó una Europa League. La llegada del exentrenador napolitano favoreció su regreso al campeón de Italia, pero el último curso no salió bien.
A pesar de triunfar por novena vez seguida en la Serie A, la Juve despidió al técnico y ahora, con el arranque de la era Pirlo, quiere renovar su plantilla: Higuaín, que en la última temporada realizó 11 goles en 44 presencias, vuelve a estar en la lista de salida. Los bianconeri negocian por Edin Dzeko, Raúl Jiménez y Arkadiusz Milik, señal clarísima de su voluntad, terminar cuanto antes la relación con el Pipita. Su adiós, sin embargo, no será sencillo.
Al punta le queda un año de contrato con un salario de 7.5 millones de euros netos, cifras a las que no quiere renunciar, algo sobre el que ya avisó a la directiva. Difícil, en un mercado como este, encontrar un club dispuesto a contentarle, considerando su edad (33 años) y el momento de su carrera. Por eso, tanto su padre Jorge como el mismo exblanco, cuestionados sobre el futuro, excluyeron un adiós a los italianos.
"El 24 de agosto vuelvo a entrenar y ya veremos qué pasa con Pirlo, habrá una dinámica nueva", dijo el jugador en 'Fox Sports'. A no ser que, por sorpresa, Higuaín lograse convencer al nuevo entrenador y quedarse otro año (algo que en Turín ven casi imposible) y descartando su complicado regreso al River, para él se abrirían las puertas de la MLS, donde milita su hermano Federico, mediocampista ofensivo del D.C. United. Antes, eso sí, tocará negociar su finiquito.
