El presidente
del organismo que rige el fútbol mundial era investigado por sus reuniones con
el Fiscal General de Suiza.
El comité de
ética independiente (la justicia interna) de la FIFA absolvió este miércoles al
presidente de la propia FIFA, Gianni Infantino, de cualquier presunta violación
de su código. Así lo anunció el organismo rector del fútbol mundial.
El pasado mes de
julio las autoridades suizas decidieron abrir un proceso penal contra Infantino
para investigar las reuniones entre el presidente de la FIFA y el Fiscal
General helvético, Michael Lauber.

Infantino negaron cualquier irregularidad y el presidente de la FIFA aseguró
que se reunió con el Fiscal General como parte de los deberes de su cargo.
El comité de
ética dijo que recibió una denuncia el 21 de junio y documentación de varias
autoridades suizas y tribunales administrativos. “Todo este material ha sido
debidamente analizado por el presidente de la cámara de instrucción en el
contexto de la investigación preliminar”, dijo el comité en un comunicado.
“Con
base en la información disponible hasta la fecha, ningún aspecto de la conducta
analizada constituye una violación al reglamento de la FIFA”, agregó.
El comité dijo
que algunas partes de las quejas “ni siquiera se encuadran dentro de las
disposiciones del código de ética de la FIFA, ni justifican la adopción de
ningún tipo de medida, incluida la suspensión provisional”.
La FIFA dijo que,
al momento de las reuniones celebradas en 2016 y 2017, la Fiscalía General
estaba investigando más de 20 casos relacionados con un escándalo en el que la
FIFA se vio envuelta antes de que Infantino fuera elegido presidente en 2016.
La FIFA se vio
envuelta en el peor escándalo de corrupción de su historia en 2015, lo que
provocó que varios funcionarios fueran acusados en Estados Unidos por cargos
relacionados con la corrupción. Infantino fue elegido en 2016 para reemplazar a
Sepp Blatter, quien fue objeto de un proceso penal en 2015. Al ser elegido,
Infantino prometió limpiar la FIFA y volver a centrarse en el fútbol.
