Ole Gunnar Solskjaer tiene un problema, bendito, como se suele decir, pero problema al fin y al cabo. Dean Henderson (23 años) ha sido, junto a Nick Pope (28, Burnley), el portero revelación de la temporada en Inglaterra en su segundo año cedido en el Sheffield United. En Mánchester tienen a un portero de presente con brillante futuro y están cerca de formalizar una mejora de contrato que prácticamente doblaría el salario del jugador: de las 60.000 libras semanales que firmó el pasado verano pasaría a cobrar 100.000, casi 6 millones de euros al año al cambio. Además de ampliar la duración del mismo dos años más, hasta junio de 2024, según publica The Sun.
Henderson está listo para competir de tú a tú con De Gea por la titularidad del equipo y el entrenador noruego considera que está preparado para ello. Uno de los problemas a evitar por los diablos rojos, si de verdad consideran al otrora internacional sub-21 inglés una alternativa de presente, es la intromisión de otros equipos en el futuro del jugador. El Chelsea, por ejemplo, busca un portero de garantías que al que entregarle las llaves de la titularidad en Stamford Bridge en detrimento de Kepa, muy irregular, y Henderson es uno de los preferidos por Frank Lampard. Por ello, esta renovación es una declaración de intenciones para contentar a nuestro protagonista e intentar evitar su fuga.
Una vez se haga efectiva esta renovación, el United estaría destinando casi 32 millones de euros anuales (550.000 libras semanales) a sus guardametas; a los más de 18 M€ (350.000 libras a la semana) que cobra De Gea habría que sumarle los 4 M€ que se embolsa Sergio Romero (33 años) y los 1.7 M€ que recibe Lee Grant (37 años).
Dean Henderson ha visto como su valor de mercado se ha disparado tras los dos años mencionados en Sheffield, pasando de 1 M€ en septiembre de 2018 a los 20 M€ en los que está tasado por Transfermarkt en estos momentos. Chris Wilder estaría encantado de contar con él una tercera temporada, pero el jugador pretende asaltar definitivamente la portería de Old Trafford. Veremos qué decisión toma finalmente un Ole Gunnar Solskjaer que siempre ha defendido públicamente a David de Gea.
