El Arsenal se
plantea pagarle hasta 18,5 millones de euros para que se vaya y Turquía puede
ser su destino final. Sólo marcó un gol y dio tres asistencias en 23 partidos
esta temporada.
Mesut Özil ya ha
jugado su último partido con la camiseta del Arsenal. Lo hizo a primeros de
marzo, contra el West Ham, y asistió a Lacazette en el gol de la victoria.
Desde aquella tarde, el mediapunta alemán no ha vuelto a disputar ni un solo
minuto desde el regreso tras el coronavirus –solo ha estado dos veces en el
banquillo– y hasta fue descartado por Mikel Arteta para la final de la FA Cup,
argumentando una lesión en la espalda, que le permitió volar a Turquía mientras
sus compañeros vencían al Chelsea en el histórico Wembley. Mientras Özil
escribía semanas antes en Twitter que estaba listo, el Arsenal anunciaba que
tenía una lesión.
Después de siete
años como gunner, la salida de Özil se viene anticipando en los últimos meses:
no cuenta para el primer equipo y es el futbolista que más cobra con diferencia
(más de 360.000 euros a la semana), por encima de otros como Aubameyang, mucho
más decisivo, por lo que a
falta de un año para que termine su contrato se le busca una salida.
Y el problema
llega aquí. Como no hay equipos dispuestos a pagar ese salario por Özil, de 31
años, el Arsenal se está planteando llegar a un acuerdo con el alemán para
compensarle los más de 18 millones que le faltan en su contrato hasta 2021. Sin
ir más lejos, su representante avisó hace semanas que no elegirá destino hasta
el mismo 2021, dando a entender que no forzará su salida.
En esta última
temporada, Özil apenas ha disputado 23 partidos en total (1 gol y 3
asistencias), su peor registro desde que llegó a Inglaterra, muy lejos de los
12 goles y 14 asistencias que regaló en la 2016-17, sin duda la mejor desde que
abandonó el Real Madrid de camino a Londres. En total, 33 goles y 54
asistencias en 184 partidos en la Premier League divididos en siete campañas.
Con el dinero que
el Arsenal se ahorre en el exfutbolista del Real Madrid, el objetivo es ofrecer
un nuevo contrato para Aubameyang, que también finaliza en un año, así como
convencer a Willian para que se sume al proyecto tras haberse despedido del
Chelsea esta misma semana. Y no es el único en la rampa de salida. También
están Guendouzi, Sokratis o Maitland-Niles.
Mientras tanto,
Özil fue fotografiado durante su viaje a Turquía con Okan Buruk, entrenador del
Basaksehir, flamante campeón de liga esta temporada. De hecho, allá ya han
pasado varios jugadores con pasado en la Premier como Demba Ba, Clichy, Robinho
o Skrtel.
