técnico del City llevaba razón. Lo que su otrora mano derecha ha
conseguido en sus primeros siete meses como entrenador del Arsenal ha sido
asombroso y la consecución de la Copa inglesa es la guinda al pastel.
Arteta se ha
ganado el respeto de un vestuario que parecía un polvorín al final de la
era Emery, aunque, eso sí, plagado de talento joven. Su pasado como
jugador gunner le ha ayudado a dar la vuelta a la moral de un
equipo hundido. "Hemos estado trabajando en tener una actitud positiva,
siempre querer ganar partidos, incluso cuando caemos, y jugar nuestro fútbol
sin importar lo que pase", asegura Maitland-Niles.
Mentalidad
ganadora de la que habló Arteta desde el día de su presentación:
"El Arsenal es uno de los clubes más grandes del mundo, y
queremos conquistar títulos".
Pero no todo ha
sido fácil para Arteta en el vestuario. También ha tenido que
imponerse a pesos pesados como Özil -cero minutos desde el reinicio-
o el joven Guendouzi, con el que no ha contado desde sus ofensas a los
jugadores del Brighton. Muestras de autoridad que
han servido para hacerse respetar.

Desde el primer
partido impuso un modo de jugar atractivo para el espectador en el que el
balón es protagonista, aunque sin renunciar a la verticalidad de
Aubameyang, Lacazette y Pépé a la contra.
"Arteta tiene
una filosofía de juego con la que creo que encajo
perfectamente", comentaba Ceballos. El medio, cedido por el Madrid,
se ha convertido en piedra angular del nuevo Arsenal. Los londinenses
se mueven al ritmo que marca el sevillano.
Aunque si hay
algo que ha devuelto el técnico español a los del Emirates es
la competitividad, algo que se había perdido el club en los últimos
tiempos. "Antes con 1-0 bajamos la cabeza, pero ahora luchamos hasta
el final por el entrenador, nosotros y nuestras familias", decía Emiliano
Martínez tras ganar la FA Cup.
Ese es el gran
éxito de Mikel Arteta: haber recuperado el hambre de títulos de un
gigante de Europa que se estaba abocando al conformismo.
Toca esperar,
pero la sombra de Wenger ya no parece tan alargada en el Emirates.
Arteta, no en vano, es uno de sus mejores alumnos: "He mantenido contacto
con Arsène en los últimos meses. Es inteligente y me da buenos
consejos. Sólo con saber que está ahí para apoyarme ya me siento más
tranquilo".
