Rummenigge, director general del Bayern Múnich, ha expresado su disconformidad
con la decisión de la revista France Football de no conceder este año el Balón
de Oro, por primera vez desde su creación en 1956. El dirigente alemán
intentará que los organizadores del galardón rectifiquen ya que está convencido
de que Robert Lewandowski, goleador del equipo bávaro, tendría posibilidades de
resultar elegido como el mejor futbolista europeo de 2020 y suceder en el
palmarés a Leo Messi.
“Robert
está disputando una temporada fantástica”, considera Rummenigge. “Ha marcado 34
goles en la Bundesliga, lleva 11 en la Champions League. Es quizás la mejor
temporada de su carrera. Desgraciadamente France Football ha decidido este año
no conceder el Balón de Oro. Esta vez él habría merecido tenerlo...”.
Rummenigge aún no
arroja la toalla. “Se debe poder hablar aún con la FIFA. Quizás aún es posible
entregar el trofeo al mejor jugador. Con la excepción de Francia, todos los
demás grandes países han terminado su liga. Tal vez hable en adelante con el
presidente de la FIFA para que intente convencer a France Football...“

La FIFA, cuyo
presidente es el suizo Gianni Infantino, decidió asimismo con anterioridad
cancelar la concesión de The Best, los premios que entrega anualmente paralelamente
al Balón de Oro de France Football. Aún así, Rummenigge instará a Infantino a
ejercer su influencia para que la revista francesa rectifique su decisión. Todo
