La Premier League
2020/21 ya tiene fecha de inicio: el 12 de septiembre de 2020. Así lo anunciado
de manera oficial la Liga Inglesa, cuya jornada final de la presente campaña
tendrá lugar este fin de semana. Por lo tanto, entre el final de esta temporada
y el arranque de la próxima solo habrá transcurrido poco más de mes y medio.
Como ocurrió en
el resto de las grandes ligas europeas, la pandemia de coronavirus forzó la
paralización de la competición casi tres meses. La Premier estuvo detenida
entre el 13 de marzo y el 17 de junio. Lo ajustado del calendario del próximo
curso, cuando también está previsto que se dispute la Eurocopa aplazada, obliga
a exprimir al máximo las fechas.
Si todo va según
el plan previsto por los dirigentes de la Premier y la pandemia no vuelve a
interrumpir la competición, la última jornada de la Liga inglesa tendrá lugar
el 23 de mayo.
Cabe recordar,
además, que entre el 12 de agosto y el 23 de agosto se disputará la fase final
de la Champions y hay dos equipos ingleses todavía en liza que podrían
clasificarse si superan el partido pendiente de vuelta de octavos de final: el
Manchester City parte con ventaja para estar en la final a 8 de Lisboa tras
ganar al Madrid 1-2 en la ida pero para el Chelsea la clasificación está
prácticamente imposible, pues cayó 0-3 en Stamford Bridge en la ida de octavos
ante el Bayern de Múnich.
En la Europa
League, los representantes de la Premier League son el Wolverhampton y el
Manchster United.
