La revista ha
anunciado la decisión con un comunicado en las redes sociales: "En
circunstancias excepcionales, decisiones excepcionales".
No habrá Balón de
Oro en 2020. France Football ha anunciado la decisión este lunes a través de un
comunicado en el que explica que la reanudación de unas competiciones pero la
suspensión de otras por el coronavirus no permite que la elección sea justa.
"En
circunstancias excepcionales, decisiones excepcionales. Por primera vez en su
historia desde que empezó 1956, el Balón de Oro de France Football no se
entrengará en 2020, debido a que no hay condiciones justas para hacerlo",
explica la publicación.
De esta forma, la
revista no entregará el célebra galardón que entrega anualmente para distinguir
al mejor jugador del mundo y quen en la última década a supuesto una feroz
competición entre Lionel Messi, que ha ganado 6 veces el premio, y Cristiano
Ronaldo, que lo ha hecho en cinco ocasiones y sólo Modric en 2018 interrumpió
su reinado.
A lo largo de sus
más de 60 años de historia, la revista francesa ha distinguido con el galardón
a jugadores de la talla de Cruyff, Ronaldinho, Rivaldo, Di Stefano, Ronaldo
Nazario, Figo, Platini, Van Basten, Beckenbauer, George Best, Kopa o Luis
Suárez entre otros, mientras que Pelé y Maradona lo ganaron de forma honorífica
ya que en su etapa como jugadores sólo se premiaba a jugadores europeos.
¿Por qué France Football no entregará en 2020 el Balón de Oro al mejor
jugador del mundo?
La revista ha
explicado una serie de razones en un artículo en su web:

Porque un año tan único no puede, y no debe, ser tratado como un año normal. En
caso de duda, es mejor abstenerse que insistir.

Porque el trofeo Ballon d'Or transmite valores, como la ejemplaridad, la
solidaridad y la responsabilidad, además de la excelencia deportiva por sí
misma.
•
Debido a que la equidad que prevalece para este galardón honorífico no se puede
preservar, en particular a nivel estadístico, ya que todos los aspirantes al
galardón no están en las mismas condiciones, ya que algunos vieron su temporada
interrumpida radicalmente y otros no. Entonces, ¿cómo podemos comparar lo
incomparable?

Porque no queríamos poner un asterisco indeleble en la lista de premios como
"trofeo ganado en circunstancias excepcionales debido a la crisis de salud
de Covid-19". Siempre preferiremos un esguince pequeño (a nuestra
historia) a una cicatriz grande. Es la primera vez desde 1956 que el Balón de
Oro se toma un descanso. El paréntesis no nos encanta, pero nos parece el más
responsable y lógico. Proteger la credibilidad y la legitimidad del premio
también significa garantizar que sea irreprochable con el tiempo.
•
Debido a que solo dos meses (enero y febrero), de los once generalmente
requeridos para formarse una opinión y decidir entre los mejores, es demasiado
poco para evaluar y juzgar, dado que el resto de partidos tuvieron o tendrán
lugar, luego en otras condiciones y formatos (a puerta cerrada, sin cambios,
finales a 8 en Europa a un solo partido) demasiado lejanos de las condiciones
habituales.

Debido a que nuestros 220 miembros del jurado (hombres y mujeres por igual)
repartidos por todo el mundo pueden haberse distraído o desviado de su misión
de observación debido a otras prioridades y emergencias de las que ocuparse.
•
Porque la historia del Balón de Oro es demasiado bonita para correr el riesgo
de dañarla con un ejercicio cuestionable. En estos tiempos agitados, tomarse un
descanso es un lujo y una necesidad inestimable. Para que el fútbol, en su
conjunto, recupere ímpetu,
pasión y emoción.
