Nigel Pearson
ha sido destituido a dos jornadas del final de la Premier en un intento por
evitar el descenso.
El Watford ha
despedido este domingo a su entrenador Nigel Pearson a solo dos partidos de
concluir la temporada en la Premier League, tal y como informó el club de
Vicarage Road mediante un comunicado.
Pearson llegó al
Watford en diciembre y con él el equipo experimentó una reacción hasta el punto
de derrotar al Liverpool por un contundente 3-0 en febrero, partido en el que,
por contra, Gerard Deulofeu sufrió una grave lesión de rodilla.
En cambio, los
malos resultados cosechados desde la reanudación de la Premier (dos triunfos,
un empate y cuatro derrotas) han impedido al Watford asegurar la permanencia. A
falta de dos partidos, los ‘hornets’ ocupan el 17º lugar, a uno de los puestos
de descenso. Solo tres puntos les separan del Bournemouth y Aston Villa,
antepenúltimo y penúltimo respectivamente, aunque el Bournemouth prácticamente
perdió hoy todas sus opciones de salvarse al perder en casa ante el Southampton
(0-2) al quedarle solo un encuentro por jugar.

Mañana el Watford
recibirá al Manchester City, mientras el Aston Villa visitará al Arsenal en una
penúltima jornada trascendental. Precisamente los ‘gunners’ serán los rivales
de los ‘hornets’ en el Emirates el 26 de julio en su último encuentro. Dos compromisos
muy complicados que han llevado a la directiva a buscar un revulsivo para
evitar a la desesperada el descenso.
El viernes el
Watford cayó claramente derrotado por 3-1 ante el West Ham, un rival directo en
la lucha por la permanencia, y al final del encuentro Pearson cargó contra los
jugadores, a quienes acusó de “pasearse” en el campo,
