
El equipo de
Dallas, con once positivos, y Carlos Vela se han negado a jugar esta novedosa
fase final que ha causado, como en la NBA, polémica dentro de la liga.
Esta noche
comenzará la fase final de la MLS en un formato único y novedoso. Durante cinco
semanas, los clubes jugarán una fase de grupos y unas eliminatorias que
terminará con una gran final el día 11 de agosto. Al igual que la NBA, que lo
hará desde finales de mes, se utilizan las increíbles instalaciones del parque
de atracciones de Disney en Orlando. Y, como en la liga de baloncesto, no todos
los protagonistas están realmente convencidos de que las medidas sanitarias
sean suficientes.
La MLS afirma
haber realizado más de 3.000 PCR a todo el personal desplazado a Orlando y,
desde el 26 de junio, ha habido varios positivos. El caso más concreto es el de
FC Dallas, con 10 futbolistas y un miembro del cuerpo técnico infectados por
COVID-19. Ante estas circunstancias, el equipo ha decidido abandonar la
competición.
Por precaución y
miedo al coronavirus, una pandemia que ya se ha cobrado la vida de más de
130.000 estadounidenses, hay jugadores que, a título personal, no están
dispuestos a correr los riesgos de reanudar la competición. Uno de ellos es el
más que conocido en la Liga española Carlos Vela. El capitán y estrella de Los
Ángeles FC, uno de los mejores equipos de la competición, anunció que no jugará
esta fase final para no poner en peligro a su familia. “Creo que es una
decisión personal porque ha nacido su hija y es entendible”, dijo para
defenderle su compatriota Pizarro.
Las medidas de
seguridad serán extremas para los futbolistas y, en general, todos los
profesionales que acudan a esta fase final. Se someterán a pruebas cada dos
días, y una cuarentena obligatoria en el recinto. Sin embargo, el riesgo sigue
estando y el comisionado de la liga Don Garber explicó que “no existe un
protocolo específico para la cantidad de positivos que se necesitan para que
paremos el torneo”.
Serán 36 partidos
de fase de grupos repartidos en quince días sin descanso hasta llegar a las
eliminatorias. Un torneo improvisado por el que, con los números que está
alguno no está dispuesto a correr el riesgo.
