Dominguez, para manifestar el interés de Uruguay para ser sede única de la Copa
Libertadores de América.
El tiempo pasa, dijera
un histórico relator uruguayo. Ya en julio, pleno invierno en esta zona sur del
planeta, y con Argentina, Brasil, Chile, Perú, Bolivia, en plena efervescencia
de coronavirus, ganándose un día al anterior en récord de contagiados y
fallecidos, el presidente de la Confederación Sudamericana de Futbol, Alejandro
Dominguez mantiene su discurso, pero sus palabras coinciden cada vez menos con
los hechos.
La Conmebol ha
sostenido un discurso publico en el sentido de terminar este año 2020, y con el
formato pre-establecido, la Copa Libertadores de America, pero los hechos,
tercos como si no existiera algo más terco que la realidad, se niegan a seguir
el curso de lo expresado públicamente.
Argentina, uno de
los pilares de la Libertadores, aún no tiene fecha de reanudación de los
entrenamientos, cuánto menos del regreso del fútbol oficial, y en el área
Metropolitana de Buenos Aires la situación es harto preocupante.
Brasil ha
retomado su campeonato doméstico, pero los contagios ya superaron el millon y
los muertos, se cuentan por muchos miles. Solo una politica, que para ser
benévolo con el juicio calificaremos de arriesgada, para no citarla
directamente como de lesa humanidad y limpieza étnica con el coronavirus, puede
explicar que se este jugando al fútbol en el gigante sudamericano.
En el área de
Santiago de Chile y Lima, la situación no es mejor. Y peor aún, no hay
pronósticos de pronta mejoría.

No hay que ser
muy lúcido ni avispado para los negocios, para entender que los grandes
ingresos de la Conmebol por derechos de televisión de la Copa Libertadores
existen, si existe la competencia. Y entonces, con sólo dos fechas jugadas de
seis previstas, en cada uno de los ocho grupos de la fase inicial, y con medio
año ya consumido, los tiempos empiezan a agotarse.
Por ahí, un
pequeño país puede ser la solución. El Uruguay tomó el toro por las astas
cuándo aparecieron los cuatro primeros casos de coronavirus el 13 de marzo, y
en base a decisiones fuertes, como la suspensión de todas las clases y
espectáculos públicos, pero sin decretar jamás la cuarentena obligatoria,
apelando a la libertad responsable de sus ciudadanos, ha logrado ir domando el
coronavirus.
Hoy, a casi
cuatro meses del inicio de la pandemia en el país, en la capital, Montevideo,
de un millón trescientos mil habitantes, hay sólo 10 casos activos, y ninguno
en las UCI. Las clases ya han regresado, y el fútbol oficial reanudará el
próximo 1ero de agosto.
Todo ayuda a la
imagen favorable, incluído el corredor sanitario que permitió a los pasajeros
del crucero australiano Greg Mortimer encontrar un puerto de desembarco, y un
corredor sanitario hacia el aeropuerto, de forma tal de regresar a sus países
de origen, luego que Argentina y Chile se hicieran los distraídos y no les
permitieran tocar tierra firme.
Con el combo
armado por el buen manejo sanitario, los pocos casos en el país, la tradición
futbolera del cuatro veces Campeón del Mundo, y el apuro de Alejandro Domínguez
por encontrar una salida razonable para completar la Copa Libertadores en el
2020, el presidente uruguayo Luis Alberto Lacalle tomó el teléfono y se
comunicó con el presidente de la Conmebol.
Uruguay está
preparado y quiere recibir en sede única a la Copa Libertadores. Cada día que
pasa, sin sobresaltos en materia sanitaria en la tierra de Luis Suárez, y con
el resto de Sudamerica, salvo Paraguay, penando con sus problemas, la utopia
parece caminar por el rumbo de convertirse en realidad.
