Salvo sorpresa,
el periplo de William Saliba en el Saint-Étienne ha llegado a su fin. En un comunicado
emitido este martes, el conjunto francés ha confirmado que el defensa de 19
años abandona la disciplina de Les Verts y, por tanto, no podrá disputar la
final de Copa de Francia que enfrentará al ASSE y al PSG el 24 de julio.
Según ha podido
saber AS, el jugador está muy decepcionado por cómo han ido las negociaciones.
El hecho de poder disputar una final en su último partido con el Saint-Étienne
le hacía mucha ilusión al central, que deberá abandonar Francia para
reincorporarse al grupo que dirige Mikel Arteta, aunque sin posibilidad de
jugar en la Premier en lo que resta de curso. Esperaba un gesto del
Saint-Étienne y/o del Arsenal, renunciando en alguno de los casos al bonus o,
al menos, a parte de él.
La razón
principal por la que el Arsenal le ha negado a Saliba seguir en el
Saint-Étienne es precisamente por esos variables recogidos en el contrato,
condicionados a que alcanzara los 17 partidos. Si el galo jugaba el encuentro
del 24 de julio ante el PSG, los Gunners estaban obligados a abonar 2,5 millones
de euros a Les Verts, tras ya haber desembolsado una primera cantidad por haber
alcanzado el francés 11 partidos esta temporada.
"Saliba
estaba entusiasmado con la posibilidad de acabar su trayectoria en el
Saint-Étienne en una final. El Saint-Étienne solo quería una prolongación del
contrato hasta el 24 de julio, día de la final contra el PSG, pero no ha podido
llegar a un acuerdo con el Arsenal debido a unas condiciones financieras
inaceptables", reza el comunicado de la entidad del Ródano.
