La Liga
Profesional de Fútbol de Estados Unidos (MLS) confirmó que 24 jugadores dieron
positivo al coronavirus antes que comenzasen a viajar a la "burbuja"
de Orlando, donde se va jugar un torneo de preparación antes de retomar la
temporada regular. También se informó de que otras dos habían dado positivo
entre los equipos que ya habían comenzado a llegar a Orlando.
Un portavoz de la
liga se negó a identificar a los jugadores que dieron positivo o de qué equipo
son. Hasta ahora, cinco equipos están en Orlando encabezados por Orlando City
SC, San Jose Earthquakes, Minnesota United, Columbus Crew SC y FC Dallas. En
total, 668 jugadores se han sometido a test desde el inicio de los
entrenamientos el pasado 4 de junio.
Antes de viajar a
Orlando, todos los jugadores, entrenadores, árbitros, personal del club y
personal de la liga deben completar dos pruebas de coronavirus adicionales con
24 horas de diferencia.
Tests y
cuarentena
A su llegada a
Florida, todas las personas deberán pasar otro test y se pondrán en cuarentena
hasta que reciban los resultados. "La MLS está trabajando en conjunto con
el Departamento de Salud de Florida en el Condado de Orange y el Condado de
Osceola, para identificar cualquier contacto cercano", destacó la liga en
un comunicado. "Los contactos cercanos también se someterán los test y se
les puede restringir la participación en comidas de grupo y actividades
recreativas hasta que queden libres de cualquier contagio".
Los equipos
comenzaron a llegar a Florida el pasado miércoles y los primeros partidos están
programados para el 8 de julio. La Liga insistió en que están preparados para
cualquier escenario, incluida la suspensión de la competición del torneo, pero
a la vez se mostraban optimistas de que al final podrían llevar adelante un
gran torneo.
El comisionado de
la MLS, Don Garber, reiteró que se habían establecido unos protocolos de
seguridad que tenían como primer gran objetivo el cuidar al máximo la salud de
los jugadores y a todo el personal que iba a trabajar durante la celebración
del torneo.
