El Liverpool es el vigente campeón de la Champions League
El Ejecutivo
de la UEFA ha decidido cambiar el formato y la sede de la gran final, que ya no
se disputará en Estambul.
La UEFA ha hecho
oficial este miércoles, al término de la primera sesión de su Comité Ejecutivo
que concluirá el jueves, las fechas para la conclusión de la Champions League
de la presente temporada.
El máximo
organismo del fútbol europeo ha confirmado la ciudad de Lisboa como sede de la
gran final, que se disputará el próximo 23 de agosto.
La UEFA también
cambiará el formato por culpa de la pandemia, por lo que las eliminatorias a
partir de cuartos de final se disputarán todas a partido único creando una
‘final a 8’, que arrancará el 12 de agosto.
Los encuentros,
de momento planificados sin aficionados en las gradas, se jugarán entre el José
Alvalade y el Estadio da Luz, que acogerá el 23 de agosto el cierre de esta
edición de la Champions, la más larga de la historia.
El escenario
de los partidos pendientes de octavos están por decidir
Los partidos
pendientes de octavos se disputarán el 7 y 8 de agosto, aunque está todavía por
determinar el escenario: podrían jugarse en el estadio de los equipos
participantes, como estaba inicialmente previsto o en Lisboa.
Los cuartos de
final se jugarán entre el 12 y el 15 de agosto, las semifinales el 18 y el 19 y
la finalísima, el 23. Todos los partidos se jugarán a las 21.00 horas.
Los sorteos para
los cuartos de final y semifinales tendrán lugar el 10 de julio de 2020 en la
sede de la UEFA en Nyon.
El Estadio do
Dragao, en Oporto, y el Estadio Dom Afonso Henriques, en Guimaraes, se
agregarán a los de Lisboa para los octavos de final en caso de que fuera
necesario.
La UEFA también ha
confirmado las sedes de las próximas finales de la Champions League. Todas las
planificadas se aplazan un año para que esta edición finalice en Lisboa; en
2021, se disputará en el Atatürk Olympic Stadium de Estambul; en 2022, en el
Saint Petersburg Stadium de San Petersburgo (Rusia); en 2023, en el Football
Arena Munich (Alemania); y en 2024, en el londinense estadio de Wembley
(Inglaterra).

Alexander
Ceferin, presidente de la UEFA, no ha descartado la presencia de público en las
finales continentales de esta temporada. A preguntas de Mundo Deportivo al
respecto, el dirigente ha apuntado que “hoy por hoy no creemos que podamos
contar con público, pero las cosas cambian rápidamente. Hace un mes no creíamos
poder jugar partidos, pero ahora sí. No lo hemos decidido aún, analizaremos la
situación a principios de julio y a mediados de julio decidiremos seguro. No
sería competente decidir por adelantado en estos momentos. La salud y la
seguridad son lo primero”.
En cuanto a los
sorteos de la Liga de Campeones y la Liga Europa 2020-2021, así como el premio
al Mejor Jugador de la UEFA, se celebrarán este octubre en Atenas, según
anunció este miércoles el portavoz del Gobierno griego, Stelios Petsas.
Aún no se ha
anunciado en qué fecha se realizarán los sorteos para la temporada 2020-21,
aunque sí se ha concretado que se hará en el centro cultural Fundación Stavros
Niarchos, emblema de la Atenas más moderna.
Para el Gobierno
heleno la elección de la UEFA supone “un voto de confianza” en el país,
teniendo en cuenta que se trata del primer gran evento organizado tras
establecerse medidas restrictivas contra la pandemia del coronavirus en todo el
mundo.
