La UEFA
confirmará esta misma semana las sedes definitivas del torneo que se ha
aplazado al próximo año. Aleksander Ceferin puso en duda a tres de las ciudades
que iban a acoger el campeonato.
El ayuntamiento
de Bilbao tiene plena confianza en que la capital vizcaína sea una de las sedes
de la Eurocopa que ha sido aplazada hasta 2021 por la crisis sanitaria de la
Covid-19. Así lo ha manifestado hoy el concejal de Desarrollo Económico, Xabier
Ochandiano. El edil ha señalado que la UEFA confirmará esta semana las sedes
del torneo y que están “seguros” de que San Mamés será una de ellas.
Hay que recordar
que Aleksander Ceferin, presidente de la UEFA, afirmó beIN Sports que habían
tenido conversaciones con nueve ciudades “y que todo está listo”, pero que con
las otras tres “tenemos algunos problemas”. A raíz de ello, fuentes federativas
aseguraron a a Mundo Deportivo que Bilbao se mantiene como sede de la Eurocopa.
Ochandiano ha
puntualizado que la competición se seguirá denominando ‘Eurocopa 2020’, pese a
que se vaya a disputar en 2021, entre el 11 de junio y el 11 de julio.
Precisamente hoy, cuando Bilbao cumple 720 años desde su fundación como villa,
estaba previsto que se jugase el primer partido de la selección española de los
tres que acogerá el campo del Athletic.
Este concejal ha
añadido que el ayuntamiento presidido por Juan Mari Aburto ha trabajado con
intensidad para que la ciudad sea confirmada como sede y ha concretado el
presupuesto para la celebración de la Euro en Bilbao, valorado en 5,5 millones
de euros: dos de aportación del propio consistorio, otros dos aportados por la
UEFA a través de la Federación Española y 1,5 millones repartidos a partes
iguales entre el Gobierno Vasco y la Diputación de Bizkaia.
