Liga y
jugadores llegaron a un acuerdo laboral que estará vigente hasta 2025 y la
temporada volverá en julio con el 'Plan Orlando': los partidos serán disputados
en el parque de Florida.

Tras varios días
de tensión en las negociaciones, la MLS y el sindicato de los jugadores de la
liga norteamericana han finalmente llegado a un acuerdo para aprobar el nuevo
convenio laboral y han evitado así un posible cierre patronal. Las franquicias
habían dado un plazo de hasta el mediodía del miércoles para que los
futbolistas aceptaran su oferta, pero los propietarios también cedieron sus
exigencias y el fútbol ahora ya puede volver en EE UU.
La liga y
futbolistas dieron luz verde así para la reanudación de la temporada a través
del llamado 'Plan Orlando', donde los 26 equipos se trasladarán por
aproximadamente seis semanas a los hoteles de la Disney en Florida, donde
estarán confinados. Allí disputarán todos los partidos que quedan de la
temporada, a puerta cerrada, en el megacomplejo deportivo ESPN Wide World of
Sports.
La gran polémica
de la disputa entre dirigentes y atletas era sobre el recorte salarial y los
premios por la temporada, que fue interrumpida tras la segunda jornada el
pasado 12 de marzo por la crisis del coronavirus. Los clubes querían un recorte
de 8,75%, pero los jugadores lograron que fuera de un 7,5%. Los premios
individuales por la temporada, sin embargo, han bajado de 5 millones a un
millón de dólares, que será dado tras el torneo disputado en Orlando.
Los equipos
llegarán a los hoteles de Disney en Florida el próximo 24 de junio, donde
estarán confinados hasta el final de la competición, que comenzará dos semanas
después, permitiendo que las plantillas tenga tiempo para una minipretemporada
preparatoria de 15 días.
El formato de
disputa de la nueva temporada de la MLS todavía no fue anunciado, pero se
espera que será muy parecido a la disputa de un Mundial, con tres partidos
entre pequeños grupos seguidos de partidos de eliminación directa hasta la
final que definirá el campeón de 2020.

El nuevo convenio
estará vigente hasta 31 de enero de 2026 y ha cambiado la distribución de los derechos
de televisión y el aumento gradual de los sueldos de los jugadores. Si en el
anterior, que acababa en 2023, estaba definido que los un 25% de los derechos
eran destinados para el presupuesto de los sueldos de los jugadores, este
porcentaje bajará a un 12,5% hasta 2023, volviendo a los 25% en 2024.
