Liverpool are reportedly ready to make a slightly risky transfer decision this summer and sell a key first-team player if they receive offers in the region of €55m.
The player in question is Portuguese forward Diogo Jota, with Empire of the Kop reporting that his Anfield future could be in some doubt.
The report names Newcastle United, Aston Villa and Wolves as being among the suitors for Jota at the moment.
It’s even suggested that the Magpies’ interest in Jota could perhaps pave the way for discussions over a swap deal involving Alexander Isak.
Liverpool’s asking price for Jota would likely be in the region of €50-55m, but it’s not clear if most fans would support the sale of a key player like this.
Diogo Jota gets off the Liverpool bus
Perhaps there’s a case to be made for cashing in on an ageing and injury-prone player if the opportunity comes up, but LFC could also probably do without too much upheaval this summer.
Arne Slot has clearly benefited from inheriting a squad that had been together for a long time under his predecessor Jurgen Klopp.
It would be a very different challenge if too many senior figures then departed all at once, with Trent Alexander-Arnold already likely to be on his way out of Anfield at the end of his contract this summer.
There’s also some doubt over Darwin Nunez, as per Football Transfers, so Liverpool might do well to keep hold of Jota for at least one more season.
The Portugal international has always been a pretty reliable performer for the Reds, even if his fitness record isn’t the best.
It could end up being a big blow for the club if Jota were to move to another Premier League club as well, as he could come back to hurt them in fixtures next season.
