He ran the show – Steve Agnew hails Lee Evans display as Blackpool march on
{by} PA

Blackpool assistant Steve Agnew singled out captain Lee Evans for special praise after the in-form Seasiders swept aside struggling Burton 3-0 at Bloomfield Road.

Brighton loanee Odeluga Offiah opened his account for the club before Rob Apter’s solo effort made it 2-0.

Summer signing Evans then added the finishing touch as the Tangerines made it four straight wins under new manager Steve Bruce.

Agnew, who filled in for Bruce in the post-match press duties, said of Wales international Evans: “Lee ran the show really.

“He’s been excellent since the first day he came in the building. To add a goal too and on his left foot as well was really good.”

Agnew added of the win: “It was terrific. Really pleasing performance. A clean sheet and three goals scored.

“We want to keep clean sheets. It is something that we have spoken to the players about. We want to keep clean sheets.

“We got one the other night at Huddersfield and to get one today is great. Really pleasing and to come out 3-0 winners on top of that too. It has been a great afternoon for us.”

The assistant coach is also enjoying life in his new role as the wins keep on coming under Bruce, saying: “I’ve loved it so far. It has been great. The lads have been so receptive to the work we have done.

“They’ve took it on board really quick. It isn’t just the starting lads, it is the subs and even the players who have missed out.

“They are a group of terrific lads.”

Burton head coach Mark Robinson felt his side fell the wrong side of the match’s most important moments as they slumped to another defeat.

“It was one of those games where you lose the key moments and it costs you,” said the former Chelsea development coach.

“If they take theirs and you don’t then you end up out of it. It’s tough to take.

“We are asking the lads to play a certain way. A style that we want to play and I felt that we caused them problems when we worked the ball into the right area.

“It is fine margins. It is about producing that little bit of quality. Their second goal saw them produce that.

“I’ve just asked the lads in there to take a look at themselves as ultimately it is my job to bring them together.

“We just need to make sure we are using the ball and are trying to find that killer pass to bring us that moment of quality of our own.

“We believe in what we are doing and what they are doing.

“We know sooner rather than later we need to start picking up results.

“It is no good producing performances, it needs to be wins and those results will come. It is again a case of us being on the right side of those moments.”
