The England international garnered attention from a number of European sides this summer after featuring in Gareth Southgate's Euro 2024 squad. Reigning La Liga champions Madrid have been at the forefront of Alexander-Arnold links as the right-back approaches the end of his contract next summer.
However, it now looks as if the Liverpool academy graduate could remain at Anfield a while longer, after sharing his excitement around his future with the Reds.
"For me, it was just an excitement to work under a new manager that I've never had before," he said after his side's opening UEFA Champions League victory over Milan.
"Having spoken to the manager, I was excited about the plans and the way they talk about it."
The defender also took the time to assess his side's start to life in the Premier League and their involvement in this season's Champions League.
"I think this club belongs in the Champions League with the history that it's had and [it was] disappointing last year not being a part of it," he told CBS Sports. "But we're back where we belong and [there is] no better way to get this campaign started than getting a win at the San Siro – a special venue, a special stadium and an unbelievable result.
"There is a lot of tactical changes within games: where to go, where not to go, when to stay wide, when to drop into the back line, when to go into midfield, when to be kind of like a number eight, or when Mo [Salah] rolls inside and I'm a high winger.
"There's all different variations and he gives us that information throughout the week, throughout the game, leading up to the game. [Arne Slot] paints scenarios so we have answers for everything, so it's kind of like: 'OK, if they press this way then this is where we're going to be positioned and if they press a different way then we'll position ourselves a different way'."
Alexander-Arnold has made five appearances for Liverpool so far this season, registering one assist - in their victory over Milan on Tuesday. The Reds return to action on Saturday when they host Bournemouth in the Premier League.
