Harry Kane has provided an update on his fitness after he withdrew from action against Switzerland. The England captain went tumbling over a drinks cooling box on the sidelines in the 109th minute and was removed from the pitch by Gareth Southgate.

Ivan Toney came on for Kane and scored a classy penalty in the shootout which the Three Lions won 5-3.

After the match, Kane explained that he cramped up and should be good to start in the semi-finals.

Kane said: "I’m fine, I’m fine. I had a bit of cramp there. The boss made a quick decision with Ivan being a proven penalty-taker."

Kane would have been a surefire pick to step up from 12 yards had he remained on the pitch. However, he was delighted to watch as all five of his team-mates converted their efforts.

"Another tough game and first of all great resilience from the lads to turn it up again. To get the goal, a fantastic finish from Bukayo Saka. Penalties are penalties, but I felt prepared - I was on the side, but I felt comfortable in the lads," Kane explained.

"Five out of five and a save from Picks [Jordan Pickford]!

"We trust in whoever is on the pitch and the difference this year compared to past years is we have proven penalty takers – we have a lot more experience and we showed it out there."

Gareth Southgate was managing his 100th game as England boss but questions have been lingering over whether he will continue after the Euros.

"I have spoken before and there is a lot of talk that comes with being England manager," Kane added.

"Even today switching the formation to something we have played before and we felt comfortable doing that.

"One hundred games is some achievement and it will be 101 on Wednesday and hopefully we can make it 102 come the end of next week."
